I'm also considering the Edge/Murano/Venza trio, with my fourth "short list" vehicle being the new 2010 Subaru Outback. Like the Venza it comes in 4 and 6-cyl versions, and has a lot more room inside compared to its 2009 predecessor (cargo space is basically a tie with the Venza, at least according to the published specs). Edmunds hasn't reviewed the 2010 Outback yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

Is Venza a real crossover? by gooddeal2

------------Length x width x height
Edge---- 185.7 x 75.8 x 67.0 in
Murano- 188.5 x 74.1 x 67.0 in
Venza--- 189.0 x 75.0 x 63.4 in

IMO, I think the Venza is too short to classify as a crossover. I consider it as a wagon. It's even shorter than the tiny Rogue.

Three and a half inches is a big difference to ya? Its about the same difference in length with the Edge and Venza.

Hey gooddeal2, you may want to double-check your info. The Venza is 6.1" longer and 4.1" wider than the Rogue. Venza also has 12.2 cu ft. more storage capacity than the Rogue. I don't believe size has anything to do with whether a vehicle is a "crossover" or not, besides that's just a label. The real question is whether a vehicle has the features and capabilities that a prospective buyer is looking for. I bought a Venza because it had what I wanted and I was willing to pay the price Toyota wanted. They can call it a car, a wagon, a crossover or even an aardvark, it really doesn't matter to me.

I don't have a problem but when it's longer in length but shorter in height, I think it looks more like a wagon than a crossover.

MD, I'm not trying to say that the Murano or the Edge is better than the Venza. I'm not really interested in any crossovers. I'm just not sure if people should classify the Venza as a crossover. The Venza is longer and wider BUT SHORTER than other crossover, that's why I think it's more like a wagon.

I guess knowing that they are all jacked up Camry sedans, Taurus Sedans, and Altimas, calling them one thing or another doesn't matter to me. They're all wagons. Just less practical/economical versions of the wagons we once knew. Its like calling the Tacoma a truck and the Ranger a pickup, to me. They're a variation of the same thing.

As much fun as it is to listen to others contrast and compare, choosing one over the other boils down to personal preference. If you look them over, eyeball the interior space /fit/finish/style there are enough differences to make a decision as to which one meets your needs best. A plus here -- a minus there. After a test drive and some time with your butt in the bucket your best choice should be evident. If not , roll the dice or look elsware. None are really bad choices.

the edge is based on the 626, could be wrong though.
it was kind of a strange test. edge with 22's is more about 'the look' than something maximize the handling. i understand that is what was supplied for the comparison, but it was not particularly relevant.
venza has not caught on here in new england. of course nobody drives the fwd version of any of the testers.
