Edmunds starts the comparison off: Comparison Test: Nissan Murano vs Toyota Venza vs Ford Edge |

I test drove the edge first because I really wanted to buy it. Drove a fully loaded ltd awd and was impressed with the interior --seats , leather, etc. Started it up and the engine sounded coarse and driving it was disappointing. Throttle was touchy at low speeds and the whole experience was unrefined. Should have driven another one -- really liked the lincoln mkx better and looked one over but never drove one. The deals were underwhelming in october. The murano test drive sold me instantly. Smooth, quiet, luxurious interior. Bought a Sl AWD with premium package, leather, panoramic moonroof for a great price. This was my first import purchase in 28 years and I wasn't pleased with myself but there was no denying the fact that the murano was by far the better buy.

Upon review by the dealership we were able to duplicate in every model of the 2009 Murano. This was being turned into the engineers at Nissan to design a fix. This was discovered in July 2008 and yet to hear resolution... Tires have been rotated and maintained and need replaced at 15000 miles. Horrible in rain/snow & I drive for a living. Not fair." "I purchased this vehicle 11/08. I have owned 3 other Nissan vehicles and I have enjoyed driving them. The 2009 Murano has been a huge disappointment. I recently took this vehicle on a 6 hour road trip and I was actually in pain when I arrived at my destination. The driver's seat is rock hard and has very little leg and back support. If you have leg and back problems, please think twice before purchasing this vehicle." "I traded my totally reliable 2008 Honda CR-V in for my Murano. And at less than two weeks old and with 760 miles on the odometer, I was greeted Thanksgiving day with a car that was totally dead."

| We selected our 2008 Edge Limited for a variety of reasons. The Murano was out from the start due to the nearest dealer being 100 miles away. Even if there was a Nissan dealer close, the Murano does not have the practicality that the Edge has. It is just too small inside. I had seen the Venza at the Chicago Auto Show and liked its looks, as it looks like basically a Toyota Edge. Did not care for the curvy grille as much as the Edge grille. Got the Edge before the Venza came out, but had the Venza been out I am sure we would have given it a strong look as our Ford dealer is also a Toyota dealer. The Edge is not as polished inside as the Toyota but the seats are very comfortable and we love the way it drives. The SYNC is really nice too. The Edge was a leap of faith for us as we have never in our lives owned a Ford product before the Edge. I was worried about Ford reliability as compared to the imports, but the ironic thing is that in 14 months of owning the Edge it has not had a single service issue other than oil changes and tire rotation. It has been perfect. If buying today I would give the Venza a look as well as the Edge. Bottom line is that we have zero complaints with the Edge and are very satisfied. The Murano would appeal if we had a dealer close and did not have kids and "stuff" to haul. It would be very nice for a couple who wanted a sportier crossover and were not so concerned about room inside. Frankly, you cannot go wrong with any of these fine vehicles. | |
| if the Venza competes more, or as much, with the RAV4 as it does with either the Edge or the Murano. | |
