Comparison Test: 2009 Nissan 370Z vs. 2008 BMW 135i - The BMW 135i wasn't napping, though. On its second and fifth braking attempts, the Bavarian repeated silent and controlled stops from 60 mph of 108 feet. The Z-car has an advantage here in tire choice, but we also found that the BMW brake system makes it a little easier to jump on the pedal and still get response that is more linear and easier to modulate. Great idea. Buying a 135 over a Z4 might lower the premiums, because of back seats! If you had to fit four, at least you'd have the seat belts to be legal!

I got a 135i after trading in a Z4 and have been happier than ever.

I'm glad I got the 135i, then. I originally wanted the Z4, but decided it would be nicer if I could include my wife and daughter on top down cruising.

I still would like to have a 135i for a track toy, I just don't like the thought of shelling out $40K and still having to pay $4000 or more to fit a limited-slip.

I would disagree with you 4maticbenz. I spent months comparing cars before buying 2 weeks ago. I repeatedly drove the 128, 328, 135 and 335 and compared them to a G37 coupe and sedan, Audi A4, and the Acura TL. I took way longer than normal (Dec-May) to decide but ended up with the G37 sedan. Although it is not a Z it has room and inherits a great deal of the performance with poise. The 335 is nice but you are talking $10K more than a G at least and the 1 series is not the same car as the 3 at all. It is nice but, uh, not quite. The 128 by the way does not have the same steering and the 135 is about $5K more than the G. I fully intended to come home with a BMW but the G clearly has more going for it and won me over. Needless to say the BMW's on forums seem to have some issues with heat, valve ticking requiring "bleeding" and of course the legendary repair need. Thank goodness for the 4 year coverage. The G is supposed to be highly reliable, more features and well, much cheaper price tag. It is VERY hard to justify BMW $premiums$ as Japan has finally caught up with Germany!

and of course the legendary repair need.

Right. And you base that sweeping generalization on what? How many BMWs you've owned? Let me guess; somewhere between zero and none. Never mind; just keep bleating that urban legend if it makes you feel better about your purchase. But here's a fact:
My 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 costs more to run than my 1995 3 Series and my 2004 X3 combined...

I share roadburner's indignation at rodsterinfl's comments.

It is always strange when people use dollars as one of the factors for determining which car is "better." If the Infiniti and the BMW where priced identically, which would you buy? Right...... Money should not be used to determine the better car, maybe what's better for your budget.

I have owned two Bimmers and two Lexus ( or Lexi ). Although the Lexus brand may have an edge on reliability, the Bimmers were less expensive to repair and maintain, especially because of the free scheduled maintenance. And no, the Japanese have not caught up to the Germans in the area of performance, not to BMW and probably not to Porsche!

well, good choice. The G37 is probably the more sensible buy. And you're right; it is hard to justify a 3-series over a G37. The 335i does perform better but not worth the extra 5k. I still prefer the 335i, though. Even if it isnt the better value, i still think it is ther better overall car. And Japan may have caught up with germany in regards to entry-level models, but when it comes to high performance (///M, ////AMG, RS,etc.) Japan is far from germany, my friend. And also i have to disagree with you on the fact that BMWs are reknown for bad reliability. Ive owned Bimmers and benz's for years and i have had nothing but minor inconviniences with my cars (burnt out bulbs, window regulators, etc.) never anything major or troubling. German automotive unreliability is a myth

German automotive unreliability is a myth.

True, but it helps those poor unfortunates with a bad case of BMW envy justify buying something else- automotive sour grapes, if you will...
