I thought that the S2000 was the best-handling roadster...

Best handling roadster is the Boxster. I've driven a new Miata and S2000 after driving a couple of different Boxsters, 2008 and 2005, both S and base models. My daily driver is an RX-8, so I know a little about well handling cars.
The Miata was too light, but great fun to toss into corners. It's light weight hurt it's traction as I was able to make the tires squeel without a lot of effort. It was a blast to drive.
The S2000 has power equivalent to my RX-8, about 240hp. The S2000 is a bit lighter, so the acceleration was a little more crisper, but overall I was not impressed.
The Boxster, especially the S, is in a different class. Not only is the acceleration an absolute joy to witness and hear, the car around corners feels like it is glued to the track. It was so solid going in and out of corners, you feel as one with the road.
There is no better roadster than a Porsche Boxster S.
