Oh, no! Count me i on the cookies.

I get that with the new minivans though I have to say even a short person such as myself has issues with getting into the third seat. It may be fine once you are there but I only bend in so many ways...

I don't like the look of the current Chrysler vans - at least not compared to the last generation. With any luck I'm on my last van anyway...

Closest I ever came to a van was my 1986 Nissan Stanza "wagon" although I'm not exactly sure how I'd classify it now

Many years back my wife got stuck at work in a two foot snowstorm. She's an RN and of course at work no matter what the weather. Once they had someone to take over for her the word was she could find a ride with someone with a 4WD vehicle or sleep there at the hospital and wait for a guard in one of the hospital's 4WD security vehicles. Her friend says "I have 4WD!" It was that very Stanza wagon. I didn't find that part out until she was home. She obviously did make it.

There's no reason at all that the other worthy candidates couldn't be left in the comment section of Ask Dub Schwartz! to be recorded for posterity

And someone sent this to me in email:

What's the #1 performance mod done to the smart?

Baseball cards in the spokes

We had the 4-wheel drive Stanza wagon and have a lot of associations built around it, as we got it for our first child. Remember doing a lot of diaper changes in the back with the cargo door raised up.

As much as we enjoyed it though, the car started having problems at around the 90K mark and wouldn't quit.

We brought our first child home in a Nissan as well but it was a Sentra. An 83 I think.

Second came home in an 85 Accord which got totaled 7 months later....

Gee, I can actually go through all four - number 3 in the 00 Accord I still have and number 4 in an 02 Ody.....

You don't have to worry about hearing about any new ones...

Should have mentioned - none of those cars belong in this topic - they were all fine.

Now ask me about my Windstall.....

BTW - loved the baseball cards option on the Smart....

the Smart is too easy to pick on for something like this. For some people the Smart is the perfect answer to their question of automotive needs. The proof is that they are selling all they expected to and more.

Which brings me to my point: couldn't the worst car of the year have been something with annual projected sales volumes higher than 20K? It kind of makes it meaningless to give the "award" to a niche car like this.

If the Smart is a perfect answer I don't want to know the question.

However, your point of a minimum sales volume might make for an interesting choice.

Tthe question is, what's a good city car/commute car that I can park anywhere, which will get superlative fuel economy, yet still have some style and optional features I can't typically find in the usual econoboxes?

I sat in one at the auto show, and I tell if you if this thing were a smidge wider and came with a manual transmission, I would be VERY interested.
