Well, while we are jumping on Toyota , can we throw the FJ Cruiser into the mix. Bad visibility, harsh ride, terrible gas mileage and a waste of interior space. Kinda the Hummer of Japan.

Title of the thread was "worst car" not worst looking or ugliest. My opinion is: based on pre-sale hype and how poorly it fit it's perceived niche and almost universally negative reviews from any journalist who drove the car for more than a day;the winner IS "THE DUMB",oops pardon me,I meant to say "THE SMART CAR".
Short of being,in fact "short", the car comes up short in every objective category you judge a car on.and "cute" don't count!

The Hummer of Japan...that's a good one. The FJ is just about as pointless. It's more than just physically ugly, it's an ugly conception.

I've never really liked the look of the FJ either, although I did see one the other week that looked OK... it was white on white so it didn't have that white roof with a different color body.

What about the new Chevy Malibu. I think it is a whole lot better looking then the Accord or Camry. Most all the car magazines agree with me on that. Switch over to GM, they need you.

Shouldn't the worst car be, Ugly, have poor sales, and be rated as unreliable? The Reno fits all three. Right now universally the Element and xB are ugly. But are somewhat dependable. The Prius is very ugly but dependable as well and sells better than average. The only thing rated less dependable than the Suzuki is the Land rover and they are not considered ugly by most. I would also agree the Smart earns a place on the list due to its failure to meet even one of the promises it offered when it was introduced. It cost more than several bigger vehicles in its class. It doesn't get better fuel mileage than some less expensive vehicles in its class. And its cuteness wore off rather quickly. It has been in the red in Europe almost from its first introduction. The Kia Reo isn't a stunner and is down there with VW and Suzuki in dependability.

It would seem that the worst cars would have to come from the least dependable vehicles we could buy or if we are voting for ugly the Element, Prius, and xB are in a class all by themselves.

I'm in agreement with you. Worst should be unattractive, unreliable and not sell well.

You really want it to lay a total egg. Grant you ont every year can produce an Edsel or an Aztek but we should identify those clearly trying to.

>What about the new Chevy Malibu

The rear appears to be designed by somebody who knew NOTHING about the front and interior. Totally stupid.

Doesn't GM even know that most people see the rear of a car for longer than the front? Not because they want to, but because that is what happens when you are on a road. You see the front side for couple of seconds when the car goes by you. But you keep looking at the rear since you are following it.

Bleh!

I'm going to have to say the worst car of 2008 is the Dodge Nitro. The Nitro is a piece of crap. The interior is hidious, the exterior even worse then interior, horrible gas mileage, small, horrible reliability, and Dodge Badging.

And the 09 Worst Car is for sure...the Journey, even worse then the Nitro.

Chrysler should give up, they make hidious, unreliable vehicles, that don't even appeal to people above the age of 70.

The Jeep Patriot and Compass are in the running aswell. I know I sure as hell don't want a SUV that is powerless, and can't even handle snow, yet alone rocks. I would be more comfortable off-roading in my 05 A6!
