Here's a couple more... by 210delray

...The Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen Hybrids. Take clunky gas guzzling SUVs, add the expensive Dual Mode Hybrid system, get somewhat better gas mileage, and hope they sell. Well, Chrysler has pulled the plug on the plant that makes them a year early, so only about 400 will be built. Worse yet, I understand the hybrids will be headed for the crusher, because Chrysler (or what's left of the company) doesn't want to be responsible for servicing such a small number of vehicles down the road. Brilliant!

When they dropped the Subaru Baja I could no longer nominate a vehicle people avoided like it had a disease. I would move to the Tribeca but it may have improved even as its sales have dropped. So about all I can think of is something that keeps VW from being lonely at the bottom of dependability lists and then Suzuki gives us the Reno. At best Edmunds calls it adequate.

This is the tough part. Being rated as adequate almost takes one out of the running. We are looking for inadequate vehicles that are hideous, or at least clearly ugly, to boot. People are certainly finding common ground - Aveo, most Chryslers....

Hideous is too kind. If that thing had a Chrysler badge, you people would be all over it.

I've been a Chrysler lover for ages now, and the majority of my cars have been Mopar. Heck, I even own a car that pre-dates the Mopar pentastar...a 1957 DeSoto. But even I will admit that the current Toyota Camry is better than its Mopar peers, the Sebring/Avenger.

Now, I would probably never buy a Camry, mainly because I like the Altima and the Accord better. But Toyota must be doing something right, considering how many of the danged things they sell.

If anything, being a Chrysler lover from way back when (I first got converted in the late 70's, I guess, when my Granddad bought an old '53 DeSoto Firedome to use as a spare car) their current crop of cars actually pisses me off!

If I could, I would choose ANY car over a Toyota Camry. But I'm not a good enough liar to say that I'd choose a Sebring or Avenger over it. At least, I couldn't say it with a straight face. A 300 or Charger? Possibly, but I don't consider them a direct competitor to the Camry.

Well using the same rating system Edmunds rates Aveo as Good so it would finish higher than the Suzuki. And sales were never good for the little zook. So the Suzuki has to be in the running. Like I said while some may have Picked on the Pacifica last year the Baja was even more of a sales flop. So the Baja should have got it. The Zuke is right in there in the Baja class. And as far as Hideous goes we have the Honda Element. Followed close by the ugly, if successful, Prius.

Considering my taste in cars, the following statement is probably enough to make the Sun go Supernova, and end life as we know it, but...

I actually have a twisted sort of respect for the Aveo. I remember sitting in one at the auto show last year, one that had a dress-up interior. Sitting inside the car, I was actually impressed. The interior seemed fairly high quality, and I was shocked that they'd actually offer LEATHER in something at this price point. Well, imagine my surprise when I read the window sticker and saw that what I thought was leather was actually a $395 "leatherette" option. So in essence, it was just glorified vinyl. But it was good enough to fool me at first.

I saw an Aveo the other day, and another thing that impressed me, for some strange reason, was the taillight assembly. It just seemed like a pretty high quality component. Especially at this price point.

Now, the Aveo isn't perfect. There are more fuel-efficient cars. But once you factor in the price, this litte sucker ain't bad. I wouldn't call it class-leading, but IMO it's far from being 2008's worst car.

It doesn't seem bad to me either. They should offer side curtain air bags and get the folding seats down a bit better (seems better than the Versa though). Daewoo makes it for Chevy - how's their reliability these days? The basic warranty is a bit skinny at 3/36.

You can also get a power sunroof on it.

The Aveo is utter crap, have you driven one? It's not only ugly but uncomfortable and check out the forums for it's "wonderful reliability" I guess it's got some VW in it's genes now.
The Suzuki does Bite but it's not as bad as the Aveo. It's tolerable to ride in an SX4. The Aveo is not.
Also I saw a Prius parked next to a Pontiac Aztek. Same vehicle but taller. My wife thought it was a Prius SUV!
The SX4 hatch is quirky but not ugly. The Aveo has 4 paws and a tail and bays at the moon. For reliability Land Rover is at the bottom but some of then do look good for SUV's.

Ugly, maybe, but my Mom seems to have no problem with her Aveo.

If a Toyota Camry was the only alternative, I think I'd rather take a SEPTA bus.
