Almost that time when Dub Schwartz picks his turkey of the year, so let's hear what vehicles you think are worthy of consideration!

Last year's turkey was the Chrsyler Pacifica. I've got my eye on a few candidates, but thought I'd canvass the neighborhood and see what's making the big stink!

speaking of Chryslers, you can add the Sebring to the list. Cheap-as-all-heck interior, non-competitive in every way.

Scion xB? They took a quirky, fun, fuel-efficient car, removed the quirks, the fun, and the fuel efficiency, and left behind a boring box with low fuel economy. That winner formula produced less sales in its first full year than the old model, already several years old when it arrived here, made.

Pontiac G5? The exercise in making the already-cheap Cobalt even cheaper, without adding a single ounce of the "excitement" a Pontiac is supposed to have?

I want to pick one of the SEA of undistinguished crossovers we now have for sale to add to the list, but I can't even figure out how to START picking one. Maybe the Dodge Journey, the cost-cuttingest, least distinguished, and newest of all of them? But I can't remember if that's an '08 or '09.

It's a lot tougher this year because truly terrible cars are becoming rarer. That Sebring is a good place to start though. It boggles the mind how Chrysler has become the stars in uninteresting vehicles. Even when their reliability was awful at lest they made cars that looked great. Not any more.

Maybe Chrysler was trying to save costs be minimizing changes from the ugly Mitsu they are basing it off. You think they would have learned from those Mitsu 3L V6 oil burners?

...there are no really truly bad cars that deserve the title "Worst Car of 2008" made by any manufacurer outside of maybe the former Soviet Bloc. If anything, cars like the Sebring and Avenger are merely lost opportunities. They may be very reliable cars hampered by a bargain basement interior. If they're the worst, we have some pretty darn awesome cars available to us in 2008.

Perhaps the next generation, if there is to be one, will be based off of a Lada or a Trabant.

I don't know whether anyone is marketing a truly unacceptable car in the US anymore. There are indeed some that maybe I'd rather not be seen in and some whose price is nutty for what you get but the overall quality of cars is as good as it likely ever has been.

But the target is always moving, right? So even though the worst car of 2008 might have been a DREAM model in 1988, it is still the worst this year.

Is the Ranger still available as an '08? If so, that can join my list. 20 year old platform mated to 15 year old engines (with the exception of the Mazda 2.3), and they don't still offer it with the "Vulcan" V-6 do they? They should be ashamed if so.

Good point about the moving target.

I also think that overall there is more a movement to the middle, which is to say that while there aren't many truly awful cars there also aren't many to lust for.

I couldn't agree more.

I have to admit I actually liked the Journey when it first came out. I thought it was an attractive looking rig. But it just seemed to get stale really fast.

And cars like the Sebring and Avenger are almost enough to make me deny that I was ever a Chrysler fan.
