I was wondering if anyone has added an automatic remote starter in there Hybrid? If not how have you Northerners handled the freezing cold and ice on windshields etc for the winter. I purchased a 2005 Honda Civic this past May 31 and I'm dreading the winter months without an automatic starter. The new Hybrids you can get heated seats and I wonder if anyone has those and if they help. I kind of think they probably don't help too much because the heated seats wouldn't help through winter coats and wouldn't help the windows. Is it true that you can't have automatic starters on hybrid cars? Is it just Honda? I really want an automatic remote starter. I'm afraid it might negate my warranty. So far dealers just say you can't get them. Thanks.

| I am picking up my new 2009 camry hybrid on Sunday - the remote start was the one item he didn't try to sell me - told me that w/the fob, it would cause too many problems - a nightmare is what he termed it, so I didn't buy it ( he was beat up enough on the sale - I think he was concerned, given the current market, I would walk away from it) | |

I have no answers first off I will say that I am still very much seeking the same as you. Please let me know if you find anything out about this. I have lived in Northern MN for thirty years and when remote starts came out I was ecstatic. Then when Hybrid came out I was the same once again. I drive 600 miles a week and need as much MPG as I can get. I used to drive this amount in Pontiac with around 20 mpg and now I always average around 40 in my 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. I have wanted a remote start in it because of the cold and ice I mean man when it is nearing -40 without considering the wind who wants to go outside to start their car to let it warm up. I have had people in forums tell me I should not want this for a hybrid it defeats the purpose.. But regardless of what people think you must let a car warm up for a bit from that temperature before expecting to drive it. For the last two winters I go out and start it and let it warm up for a bit then still average 37 in the winter months. Anyway I used to average 20 now I average nearly double that so I am HAPPY. People in the North should have auto start. I am seeking the same answers. \ |

| I am glad you replied. I feel exactly the same way you do. I think it makes total sense like you say. We have to go out and warm the car up anyway before we can move the car, why not have an automatic starter and use that from inside the house or from work. I don't understand why it can't be done on a hybrid. Hopefully someone out there has it on their car and has had success with it and without negating their warranty. | |

Did getting the autostart hurt your warranty in any way?
