2003 Grand Am Irratic Idle Problem by hobbiest

Very Intermittent: 1. After driving to work on highway when I get off and push in the clutch the idle wont kick down and stays up around 3k RPMs. I cant get to kick down. Seems like if I stop and put in 1st gear it will cause it to kick down. It isnt the throttle linkage sticking.
2. Also very intermittent, Car runs great then out of the blue when pushing in the clutch to stop the RPMs will drop and engine dies. I have to keep pressing the gas pedal slightly to keep car running which is tuff with a stick since I only have 2 feet and ones on the clutch and the other on the brake. So usually i just leave the engine off until light changes then starts right up and take off. Then will do it again at next stop and usually continues until I get to my short destination then when I return to car and restart goes away and works fine again without any trouble until next time occurs which can be weeks.
