2009 Edmunds' Inside Line Editors' Most Wanted Awards - Just as it was last year, our selection process is extremely simple. There's only one real rule: Inside Line must have tested the car or truck by November 1. (more)

I agree. 3 cars that are at or pushing 100 grand, a truck that gets 14mpg (maybe), a minivan and a small luxury car with a almost useless backseat. Great.

What about the rest of us in the real world that want something fun to drive but still have to make the daily slog to work and maybe Target once in a while?

It would appear you are pandering to the readers of GQ, Flying, & Ocean Yachts.

I love this car. I do, and would buy a convert. in a second if the money wasnt so tight. So, do I invest in a EOS? Dunno. If you think about it, the MiniS convert is the closest to the original 2002 without a top. 25K. Not bad.

What a delightfully eclectic mix of "greatness" that, for me, recalls the Dodge Aspen (circa late 1970's) as MotorTrend car of the year winner. Your "Top 5 Most Wanted" includes a Honda minivan and a $200,000 German luxo-barge. Imagine, that some people actually think Edmunds editors aren't real car guys! Well, take THAT naysayers! I guess kudos are in order for bucking the trend and not including a P.O.S. hybrid on the list kowtowing to green Nazis.

The numbered days of the large displacement internal combustion engine powering personal transport vehicles are numbered. The American consumer's obsession with large HP has created an vacuum in the U.S. economy.

Amazingly, while even Bob Lutz, the father of the Dodge Viper, seems to have embraced the future, the editors at Edmunds are clinging to the past much the way a child clings to it's mother's apron before that first day of school.

NOT ONE SINGLE FUEL EFFICIENT car on your most wanted list??? Time to let go of Mom's apron.

Inside Line editors are enthusiasts - they'll sacrifice some mpg for some hp. And it's their list of what they want.

Check out the Consumers' Top Rated for 2008 list for what the rest of us want. There's a couple of high mpg rides in there and one hybrid.

As the website name suggests Edmunds "Inside Line - the Lastest Auto-Enthusiast News"

News consists of research of relevant fact and analysis reduced to something digestible for readers.

So by your definition interest in and analysis of the genuine future of the automotive technology does not fall under "auto enthusiasm". What does it fall under at Edmunds.

Why then does Inside Line bother testing hybrids, and diesels and plug-ins?

Blogging does not = news analysis

Some of us are enthusiastic about hybrids. Even some of the editors (like this gearhead).

We have something for pretty much everyone around here. But the editorial philosophy at Edmunds differs from that at Inside Line. If you don't like this article, keep clicking.

This is a pretty silly list of automobiles. I guess for fantasy land stuff, yeah, it's okay. But with the terrible economy having eroded the personal wealth of many, $200,000 German supercars are going to be a thing of the past.

Time to get with the times and feature practical (the minivan was the only practical car on the list), fuel efficient (V8 and V12 engines don't qualify as fuel efficient), and inexpensive (anything more than $30K does not qualify as inexpensive). I know it may not be as sexy and fun to rate Honda Civic's, Hyundai Elantra's, and Mazda 3's but we're living in a new world now, and fun is going to give away to practical and affordable. The trick is to find cars that are fun to drive and meet those requirements. That takes more work, both from the manufactures and from the magazine editors who would rather test and write about Ferrari's, BMW's, and Benze's all day long.
