2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor First Look - Most factory-supplied off-road packages before now have amounted to nothing more than slightly larger-capacity dampers, retuned springs and a few decals on the fenders. The 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor has all these things, but it takes the premise several steps further. (more)

Why doesn't Ford just concentrate on either on or off road performance? The Toyota Tundra offers 390hp, plus an off-road package, at a lower price-point than the existing F-150. Assuming the Raptor will be in line price-wise with the Platinum edition, expect a base price no less than 40K. Any significant options (6.2L BOSS), could put this truck in 50K territory. The idea of a premium-priced truck isn't new, (Lincoln Blackwood) or smart. Thinking like this is why Ford is on it's death-bed.

Hi all,

There's nothing else like this on the market. I'll buy one, sign me up. There is no really good off-road pickup on the market from anyone including Toyota. SVT built the Lightning for years and it sold fairly well. That was strictly road oriented and they are holding their value incredibly well. Take a look at at the prices for them on some of the online classifieds if you don't believe me. I believe this will be the first application for the new "Hurricane" 6.2L engine which has been a long time coming. BTW, Ford is not nearly as close to their death bed as GM and Crysler are and GM has the Hummer H2 and H3 (which are really just HMMV wannabes). I can't wait!

If toyota could make a truck even a quarter as good as half of what thay clam the tundra to be you might have an argument but take a good look at all the "heavy duty features" and compair them to a ford or gm and i think you will be suprised at how lite and small the toyota is. By the way those 390hp are very short legged horses. Pony's more than horses.

edizzy,

I made the mistake of selling my Ford F150 and leasing (thank goodness) one of those Toyota Tundras with the fancy performance package. I can tell you from first hand experience that the Toyota Tundras is the biggest piece of CRAP that I have ever driven.
Toyota needs to rethink the fullsize and maybe stick to what they know best...the tacoma.

I think that Ford is making a very bold move introducing the Raptor, I think that it will make an absolute killing when it is released.

And oh yeah, Ford is the only US automaker that did not take the bail out money! They figured they got themselves into the mess, they can get themselves out.

Long live the "Build Ford Tough" trucks.

itschris,

You do know that Consumer Reports rates the Ford F-150 with 5.4 liter V8 engine as the highest reliability mid-size truck with a V8 engine.

Only the Toyota Tundra with V6 engine and Ford F-150 with V6 engine score higher.

The richer people get; the more fun they'll have in the future. Why, because of specializations. What does Kaiser mean? Well, if let's say Kaiser is a successful Billionaire; it could happen, he may need a truck or two for his ranch/farm chores a Powerstroke for the heavy duty work and an XLT F-series for the lighter stuff. Neither of those is going to be fun enough after he has worked in 'em so it seems Ford has thought ahead for Kaiser and made a SVT for those off days when a guy just needs to get away from work, the SVT seems to be the stripper of the truck world in that it's that release from the norm. Not all agree with the stripper analogy so let's call it the dessert. Yeah, it's a sweet steak after a steak meal. The way Ford is channeling it's power makes one want to drive one, two, three, so on and so forth. To Ford: Make Mustang Real Super Car; a lean one that cost a lot & that looks great hitting curves.
