Why the Hybrid? by thegraduate

The Civic DX/LX/EX gets comparable economy to the Fit, despite being more powerful and having more passenger space. If we're looking for fuel economy and practicality, you aren't looking at frivolous Navigation systems and leather upholstry, but since you have a NAVI-equipped Fit, we'll use a NAVI-equipped Civic.

I threw in MY competitor here, against Edmunds 2 competitors.

Civic EX Sedan 5AT 25/36 - 29 combined ($20,005) (add 2 grand for NAVI)
Civic Hybrid Sedan 40/45 - 42 combined ($27,420)
Fit 27/33 - 30 combined ($19,430)

Magic Seats by mrsteevo

I wish the Civic would just get over its self and use the magic seats. The UK Civic not only has a 2.2 Diesel engine, it also has the magic seats in a hatchback. Bring that car to North America and lets see how the Civic Hybrid does in a comparison.

I couldn't have said it better myself. The hybrid's just damn silly compared to either of the two conventional cars.

Please include a comparison of the emissions or the overall 'green' effect difference, since that is the 2nd major reason to buy a hybrid after gas mileage.

two years ago, i traded in a Deville for a civic hybrid....since buying it, i have averaged 42 mpg....driving from home to paso robles at 55, i get 60 mpg....driving from SF to paso robles at 80 mph (and you don't know you're going 80), i get 38 mpg. when i need to pass fast, i pull the CVT into a lower range and red line it....it moves just fine....the ride is amazingly good for a small car, and, you know what??? I LOVE the wheels....real class....

The hybrids are for the fools. If you looking for bang for the buck, get the fit.

I read the article just over a week ago. I too am glad it was more bare-bones vehicles rather than a comparo that doesn't really help me at all, even if I wish I could afford (and would love to drive) one of 'them' that comes in just under the $$ of a Manufactured Home.
What struck me about the test was instead of the Fit, it should have been a Civic EX or really, just an LX!! That makes better sense. Keep 'em coming, it's good reading. Also the post on SF/Paso Robles & how much the person likes their Hybrid was good to read. They should know.
