Please let me know if you have had a tie rod end separate. I have a 2000 windstar and the right front tie rod separated. Ford knows they have a problem with this , please go to http://www.cbc.ca/consumers/market/files/cars/tierods/mechanics.html

Yes, replacing tie rod ends are a common item to replace on several vehicles. I work at an auto repair shop and we replace tie rod ends on many different vehicles, not just Fords. It's a wearable item like everything else on the vehicle. We check our customer's during oil changes, just to make sure they are safe going down the road. You can feel a tie rod end getting loose before it separates.
