Interesting and funny history of LaCrosse name by canadave1

Last February when I was down in Florida for the month thawing out from a colder than normal Canadian winter, I traded in my old 1998 LeSabre for a 2005 Century. At one dealer I ended up taking a used LaCrosse out for a test drive and I really liked it but ended up buying a 2005 Century because it had only 4,800 miles on it and it still smelled like new. I was curious about the name LaCrosse because at home in Canada it's called the Buick Allure. I would have thought that LaCrosse would be a better name in Canada since lacrosse is the official national sport even though hockey is by far the most popular. The dealer didn't know why so I Googled it and discovered that in the Province of Quebec which is predominently French speaking, the word lacrosse in the French dialect called Quebecois, actually has two slang meanings. One is swindle and the other is ... are you ready for it? drum roll please ... MASTURBATION. I'm not kidding and you can check it out yourself. No wonder it's called the Allure here.
