Ford Mustang 1997 Coupe V6 3.8L engine Snow driving

Hi I have a Mustang 97 cope v6 3.8l Stick shift ..
I love my car never had any major issues but i have only driven my car in the DC and Maryland area where it does not snow that much and this is my first winter after buying this car. I have put about 5K on this car in 2.5 months i have had this and now i have shifted my base to boston and southern New Hampshire area where it snows much more than Maryland. I have read this car can be really difficult to drive on ice as its RWD and has good torque with a light body ....so needed some thoughts and any suggestions will be appreciated ...?

We have the 2008 4.0L V6 w/17" wheels, we put Firestone Winter Force snow tires all the way around. Haven't had a good snow to really test them out yet, but that is what we did.

If you are going to rely on it to commute every day, I would consider either selling it or garaging it in winter months and getting a second car. I had to wait until I moved from NY to NC to get my Mustang.

1. Traction tires w/o studs
2. 200 lbs of fire place logs in trunk
3. Start out on ice in 2nd gear
4. Come to a stop by braking softly sooner than you think when driving on ice/snow
5. Don't let other drivers intimidate you into doing what they want you to do.

I have a 1995 mustang and i live in Northern Ontario, Canada. So it seems silly for me to have a mustang, just because of the massive amounts of snow. BUT it can be fairly easy to drive in snow. I put about 6 bags of road salt in my trunk and i got winter tires. That seemed to do the trick for me. The bags of salt have also come in handy if i do get stuck. Just shovel out a bit of the snow, toss some salt down and watch it melt. works wonders. I don't know about American tires, but if you are from Northern Ontario you can get tires with ball barings in them that act like spikes to the ice. Maybe look into that too.

I have driven my '05 the last two winters. I had the wrong tires so it was a nightmare. But like other people said if you buy winter tires and put some weight in the back (you can buy a package of shingles for $20 and put them back there. it will come out to 60lbs) you will be ok. My biggest fear was putting dents in it (which I came close to doing several times.

i like the shingles over the rock salt. if the rock salt breaks open, you could be in trouble, even a warm day would be a bad thing.
