Now that 2009 is closing in fast I guess we need to start discussing the 2009 Auto Shows. I was just looking and noticed that the Philly Auto Show site is up and has the dates for the show. (Jan 31st - Feb 8th) I myslef will more than likely be going down on Feb Feb 2nd (Mon) or 3rd (Tues) to avoid the inevitable Sat first day rush and Superbowl Sunday crazy traffic (double true if the Eagles make it there?) in and out of Philly.

P.S. - I got over the the Hershey Show a few hours on Saturday. They did a nice job this year with the traffic (both foot and car), and thank god for the FREE Hersheypark Season Pass parking.

I went to the New York International Auto Show in 2007 with my brother. It was my second trip to the city, ever (I was less than five years old on my first trip), and I enjoyed the change of scenery. I had a hard time navigating around the uber-lux vehicle displays (Lamborghini, Jaguar, Maserati, etc.), which my brother had to see. I was almost turned into mashed potatoes around the Maybach/Bentley cars (I hung back, my brother soldiered on). He took an interest in the Chrysler 300, the Demon (or was it Hornet?) concept (I guess that we'll never see that!), and the Ford F150, one of the few vehicles that he can fit into. The current Malibu had debuted that year, and it was worth a glance. I also looked at Nissan (no wagon or hatchback at the time!), Hyundai (the Genesis vehicle, which interested me, was on a turntable), Saab and Volvo (their wagons were on display and easy to get to, but nobody could get in the vehicles).

After walking for about three hours on one floor of the event, we quit. I don't think the Javits convention center had any seating set up anywhere unless you wanted to steal a space on the edge of a display.

I'm going to find a closer show next year, maybe DC. (Our town has one, but it isn't as fun as going to somewhere new.) However, with a number of manufacturers not participating in the shows already this season, I'm wondering whether the trip will be worth it.

I can understand some niche players pulling out of the auto show circuit, but why Nissan? I'm wondering if it is because they have no other introductions after LA, no cool concepts, and are afraid people will look closely at their products compared to some of the competition. Personally, I think their interiors are a bit chintzy compared to Honda, Toyota, VW and even some of the domestics. Either that, or does Nissan have a bigger financial problem than they are letting on?

Well, Nissan did at least have that cool GT-R. Looked like it could've come out of an episode of "Speed Racer."

...if things get really bad, the car show circuit is going to be really dull! It'll be nothing but Toyota and Honda and maybe a smattering of some lesser imports- no domestics and no Nissan.

Silicon Valley International Auto Show happens Jan. 8 through the 11th.

If you go to the Motor Trend auto show site, and put RIDER in the optional promo code, you can get the $9 ticket for $4 off. (or so says FatWallet.com).

There's a free subscription to Motor Trend you can snag too with each ticket order.

I'll attend the Harrisburg Auto show later this month. As you can imagine the thriving metropolis of Harrisburg does not get the concept vehicles. heck, they don't even have the pretty models to stand next to the vehicles. We get Larry the Cable Guy instead.

This auto show is run by the Harrisburg regional dealerships. So it's more of a way for dealers to bring in customers. I think it runs the last week in January. It's the only way they'll allow someone like me to sit in Mercedes S-class without alerting security.

I am going to the Philly show, probably Tuesday or Wednesday night. I don't think I have missed one in at least 10 years.

I am hoping the new Ford Fusion and the Buick Lacrosse will be there, and to at least be able to sit in the Ford.

The Philadelphia Auto Show starts Saturday, January 31st!

I wonder if they're still going to have the black tie event on the Friday night prior?
