The cars are nothing alike, the only commonality is the VQ engine block. The Infiniti shares the same basic platform as the 350/370Z and many of those parts are interchangable (engine, suspension).

I've owned both a VQ-engined Maxima and a G35 Infiniti Sedan and on the road they are completely different cars. The Maxima/Altima is a capable FWD sedan but inherits all the performance issues that FWD sedans have. The Infiniti on the other hand can be driven like a sports car if you desire, and is capable of power-on tail-out corner drifting in the right hands. No it's not really designed for that as it is on the heavy side, but the chassis is more than capable. I Auto-crossed my Infiniti for 1 1/2 years and everyone was very impressed with how capable it was, keeping pace with BMW M3's and Corvettes, trophying almost every time.

...what are your experiences with the braking performance of your g35s sedan? i'm considering a 2008 g35s 6mt sedan but the 2009 model has bigger rotors and better brakes. do you think its worth paying more for the 09 because of the brake upgrade? thanks.

i owned an 05 v6 altima and an 05 fx35...the altima was very quick but i liked the balance and handling of the fx35 much more.

The base brakes on the 05 and later G35's are very grippy, there is enough braking force to lock a sticky compound racing tire even under the most grippy conditions. however my experience is with street and auto-cross which is 1-2 minutes of extreme driving followed by a 5-10 minute pit, on the street you would never find the limit unless you were running from the law! The only time the larger brakes would be an advantage would be on a rack track (lap days etc) where you beating the brakes lap after lap. The larger surface area of the brake disc would be able to disipate more heat more quickly preventing fade for longer in those conditions.

Were the first four paragraphs an effort to win some sort of award for self-indulgent, over-written prose?

You could say it's a rebadged altima, but are you going to get RWD with the altima? You can't event get AWD
