How Do I Trick Out A CR-V??? by chiefbongo

Last week, there was a Shelby Cobra, red with white rally stripes, in the parking lot at the supermarket. My 3-and-a-half-year-old was mesmerized. He spotted it the moment we pulled into the lot and said "Daddy, I want the red car." I could only second the emotion.

I'm turning 40 in a few weeks, have another kid due a few weeks after that, and I'm trading in my Elantra GT (which I bought because it looked like a Saab 93) on a CR-V LX with AWD tomorrow.

Instead of getting a Corvette and a pretty new wife with even newer breasts, I'm buying a sensible car and sticking with the gal what brung me to the dance. Best I can do is get it in red and put side steps on it (mostly to help pregnant wives and small children get in and out of the car, but with a bonus of them looking sort of cool).

Is the CR-V really a "mom car" as I saw someone call it on one forum when I was Googling to see what people had done with their V's?

Has anyone done any interesting paint, lowered one, jacked one up, put rally stripes on one? I'd love to see one with rally stripes.

Has anyone strapped on a turbo charger, run a dyno after putting on a CAI, anything?

When I was thinking about the Mazda5, I could find lots of discussions on performance and appearance mods. But for the CR-V... not much.

Help!! Aside from an Obama bumper sticker (he's popular with the young folks, I hear), what can I do to make it look cooler? Do you have URLs for sites where there are pictures of pimped CR-Vs that I can use for inspiration.

Help!

Following the theme of “urban sport,” the Sport Concept CR-V is designed to increase the athletic feel of the already sophisticated CR-V. Highlights include aerodynamically styled front and rear bumpers along with a sports suspension package that lowers the Sport Concept CR-V for a customized presence. Custom 19-inch wheels are shod with Bridgestone Potenza tires (245/45R19). Interior modifications focus on the creation of a high-tech, performance-oriented driving environment with the addition of Civic Si synthetic suede fabric on the seating surfaces. Carbon fiber trim panels further accent the interior. Outside, the Sport Concept CR-V is painted in Agile Blue.

More to see at this link, scroll to about the middle of the page. It was seen at the SEMA show two years ago.

Wives????

How many are you packing in the CR-V?

I would not go by what a 3 year old thinks is cool. Next thing you know you will be looking for a short wheelbase chevy van, just like Scooby Doo's.

The new CR-V is more girly than the previous one. And the lack of manual transmission does not add to its musculinity.

You can strap a turbo to it, but is is still a purse on wheels with a slush box.

The last year they made manual was 2006, go and find your self one, and if someone challenges your vehicle's musculinity look at what they drive. That Cobra knock off probably had 3 speed auto. A pink VW Cabriolet with a stick is more manly than Cobra with slushbox.

The 2002-2006 CR-V with a manual went 0-60 in 8 seconds which is not bad for an SUV, and really good for a 4 cylinder SUV that gets 30 mpg most of the time.

And 2006 was the last year they put picnic tabels in the back.

Not going to drive the 405 between Everett and Redmond in rush hour with a stick. Don't want to have to work that hard every day.

If you know how to drive stick and how to modulate speed with just the throttle it is actually less work to drive stick in stop and go than automatic.
