It's not easy to get too excited by the 2009 Audi A6. Yes, some 234,000 examples of Audi's executive barge were sold around the world last year, more than either the BMW 5 Series or the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. But while the A6 sets the tone of Audi's styling look, it lacks the luxury chutzpah of the Audi A8 or the sporting finesse of the smaller Audi A4.

Interesting article, the 09 A6 goes from 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds, what did the 08 rate for 0-60? Seems like the major complain by the author is the stiff ride, can anyone comment on the ride of the 08 A6? Is it as stiff as a BMW 5 series?

I don't think the A6 is any stiffer than a 5 series.

Magazines and editorial staff drive the sport suspension A6's with 19 inch low profile and wonder why their teeth chatter. You don't have to get that set-up. Sport suspension with stiffer springs and super low profile tires is a double whammy for ride comfort.

An A6 with 18 inch wheels and the standard suspension gives quite a decent ride.

My current 2008 A6 has 18's and sport suspension. I had an 06 model that had 18's and no sport suspension as well.

In europe the A6 is a family car - the extra length etc is put to good use and it is noticeably more roomy especially in the trunk compared to say a 5 series. FWD/4WD is great in the real-world when snow falls.

In the US the A6 is put in the category of 'sports-sedan' and it is a bit uncomfortable in that role as it is not quite as 'sporty' to drive in the hands of auto-journalists as the 5 series. But as a real-world. all round,it's a great car - as the previous poster says keep away from the big wheel/tire combos.

Comments like "An Audi TT with this engine would be something to behold" just make me cringe. They're too hugely different platforms, the A6 is much larger and features a longitudinal engine layout with dictates different space availability and drivetrain interfaces. The 3.0 TFSI will never ever ever fit within the current A-chassis (that's TT, Golf, A3, etc. etc.) engine bay, period.

With that out of the way, lemme say I love Audi. But the A6 has never held any appeal for me whatsoever, and that is also true for this updated model.

Unlike the E-Class, 5-Series, Jag XF, etc., the A6 has never had a clear mission in the Audi lineup except that it's somewhere between the A4 and A8. It's got luxo-limousine looks but it's backed up with sport suspensions and S and RS models. It seems to fail at both being a limousine and being a sports sedan because it borrows pretty equally from both camps and the resulting car is pretty schizophrenic. Its best use certainly is the european use...a large car with a small diesel engine. Ya know, for taxi cab drivers.

Hum-hum
To whoever wrote this article, please note that quattro spells without Cap Q.
And quattro is not a four wheel drive but an all wheel drive system.

So in order for anybody to take your article seriously it would be necessary for you to know what you are talking about.

The A6 is such a bigger seller for Audi worldwide, that it is a bit of a forgotten car in the US market. Audi doesn't seem to be terribly upset that it's outsold here in the US by the 5 series and E class. World-wide, the A6 still domintes the competiton.

As an 2008 A6 owner, it's kinda nice not to see a new body 05 & up A6 on every corner, so I could care less if more people buy a 5 series or an E class.

I just ordered a 2010 3.0T A6 Quatro Premium Plus with the sports package (18" 5 spoke wheels, sport suspension and special steering wheel). How is the sports suspension. The guys at the dealership were concerned about me lking the car with th sports suspension. They said it was a rough ride. My last car was a BMW Z4.
