I believe the car is probably a great car. I'd love to take part in one of these tests just to see the difference, however. 2 seconds needs quite a bit more power AND handling to best the contenders. I can't see it!

I also believe this is probably a great car, but it could be even greater with better weight distribution. That's possible if the AWD system is added to a RWD car, as opposed to a FWD car.

The G35xS should have been tested too. It's the same as the G35S but with AWD. Yes, I realize that it doesn't have a manual but I think it's still a valid comparison.

Then again the test was set up by Honda so maybe the G35xS was "too good".

You are joking, I assume?. Any car with an "S" designation that only comes with a slushbox shouldn't be included in any comparison. O.K. maybe a three way comparison between the Avalon and your grandfather's Buick. But that's it. Same goes for those marketing numbskulls over on the Nissan side that have the balls to call a CVT-only transmissioned Maxima a "4 door sports car".

The TL clearly has some appearance issues, but at least they know how to put a proper short thow close ratio 6-speed manual into a "sport" sedan. I will definitely be giving this one a test drive.

okay i agree with "jenglish" because he does have a point. if you are going to compare all-wheel drive vehicles then every car regardless of transmission should be included. its only fair imo.

I understand why they omitted the G35xS... no MT. Honestly I don't think the xS would have faired any better than the G35S in this comparison, considering it weighs 200 more pounds and sports all season instead of summer tires. Of course I own an 08 G35S with an MT, so I guess I'm biased.

As far as the TL, I agree the SH-AWD is an impressive system as evidenced by the track times, but it's still not as fun as a proper RWD sports sedan with an MT and 300+ hp! The overall shape is mediocre, and the front end styling is just ugly. I had to opportunity to sit inside the new TL, and it is typical honda... busy, busy busy. Buttons everywhere, too many surfaces protruding all over, overstyled. And the navigation system hasn't changed in 5 years... terrible resolution and no touch screen.

Why anyone would pick the TL with so many good competitors out there is beyond me. Well, it does lap the Honda proving ground test track 2 seconds faster than an S4, so it's got that going for it. In real world driving, it's slower than all these cars here, and the handling benefits of SH-AWD won't be realized by 95% of customers.

Not to nitpick, but did you have a few too many before you sat in the TL. I have a 2004 TL and the Nav system is both voice activated and touch screen. The resolution is only average for a large screen, but they improved that considerably in the 4 years since - at least in the 2008 MDX I got as a loaner recently.

I would agree that RWD is my preference over AWD in either the 335i or G35. However, I am going to wait until a test drive of the TL SH-AWD before drawing any conclusions. It clearly beat a serious competitor in the S4. The owner of the Acura/Mercedes dealer I go to said his test drive of even the automatic 2009 model was "surprisingly impressive". He is a serious enough enthusiast to go past his own dealerships SLK and SL lines and bought a Porsche Cayman S as a weekend car, so I trust his opinion.

Would you consider a 2010 TL?? I must admit your car is the best looking Acura ever. How's the Maxima holding up? Would you consider the new Maxima?

Most cars these days are sold with automatics or some variant of it, even "S" cars. My M3 has a DSG transmission and I don't think it lessens the experience any. The computer can control the shifting better than I ever could.

If you have a 2008 M3, the "Double Clutch" DSG is not exactly the same as a G35 slushbox (torque converter) automatic. However, from my own experience in the 2007 and earlier M3's with the SMG's, they certainly DO lessen the experience for anyone that knows how to shift.

I don't want to open the manual vs. automatic can of worms, but IMO, for those that want to hand the driving over to a computer, why not just buy a hybrid and get 50 miles per gallon rather than waste your money on a sports car or even sports sedan. "Sports" in my book is about participating, not being a spectator. And if you aren't rowing your own, or at a bare minimum, flipping your own with an SMG/DSG, you are not participating. Torque converter automatics (and CVT's) should be labeled "anti-S", not "S". IMHO of course.
