i've been looking forward to this for a while, but now that I'm reading this, I'm a bit disappointed. 4400 lbs? Why the hell does a vehicle slotted below the XC90 still weigh nearly as much? They should have spent more time slimming it down and less time thinking up new ways to electronically control peoples' stupidity on the road. Okay, maybe that's harsh. Its not that their accident avoidance technology isn't welcomed, I just get annoyed that the basics aren't thought of. Does Volvo not realize that the car could stop shorter if it were lighter?? Seems like a very simple safety feature to me. so rather than being what was asked for (a fuel-sipping mini-luxo ute), we get what nobody asked for - yet another bloated gas guzzling luxo-barge.

Given the new competition launching in this segment - a comparo test with Q5 X3 Merc possibly the Acura (though its a stretch that people will REALLY cross shop it) will be key (and very interesting). We're seeing a lot less comparos lately. Can we get that fixed please ? Love the site.

After seeing the show car version, i decided i was interested in one.A great looking car.Now that i've seen the production version, its kind of bland looking compared to the showcar.Its bigger than i wanted.And at a base price of $38,000 and a gas guzzler i too am disapointed. I'll pass.

Looks good in pictures. Volvo has a weight problem though. The new style 2008+ XC70 has the same problem, while smaller than it's predecessor, its a few hundred pounds heavier. Did Volvo miss the recent sruge in gas prices (which will be back)? This car should be a little smaller and lighter, and should offer the 3.2 sans Turbo. If that engine can move the XC90, it can move the XC60. The styling of the new models has been great, I just wonder why all Volvo's are now heavy gas hogs.
