"General Motors announced an attractive price on its 2011 Buick Regal, which is generating a lot of positive buzz. But the automaker likely will lose money or at least not make much on every one it sells in the early going."

That is the unfortunate part of the weak dollar. Who knows, maybe when the Oshawa plant opens, they can make some Insignias here to make up the difference.

I'm glad the "attractive price" part wasn't your words! When I saw $27K, I said then what are the 4-cyl Altima, Legacy, and Sonata amongst other competitors?

This is why GM is going to sell 35K of them; mainly to people who are Buick fanatics or just find something they like about the styling. What Buick needs are models that sell 5-10X that amount! They need some HR's; not a HBP.

Is this all Buick is offering? No breakthrough to put it above the competition? Want $27K or $30K from me? Show me a car that gets 40mpg with 300hp, or a car that flies or submerges. At least give me some gull-wing doors! Do something other than waste tax-payers $ by producing another in a string of expensive, me-too sedans with no panache.

Thanks for the comparisons. Glad to see the Regal has decent leg room in the back.

#438 of 440 Encore by hpmctorque

I checked out the Encore at the Washington Auto Show. It's a polarizing design, as is the Juke, for example, but I think it fits in the Buick lineup as the brand's small car. I'm going to follow it to see how it sells.

"Buick has had three consecutive years of sales growth and sold more than 180,000 vehicles last year, up about 2% from the previous year and the most for the brand since 2007.

“What's important about this growth is that so many of our customers are new to the brand. More than 43% of Buick buyers come from non-GM brands, and half of those came from imports,” said Tony DiSalle, Buick’s U.S. marketing manager."

Let's hope the Encore sells well enough for them to build it here instead of Korea, seeing as it is based on the Sonic platform.
