| I took a 4 cyl Genesis Coupe for a test ride on Tuesday. It was red with the premium package, 6 spd. I've been impressed with the looks of the sedan and was looking forward to driving the coupe. First it looks good. Nice lines and shapes. Onto the drive. The outside temperature was hot (95 F) and the A/C was struggling to cool the car, problem for hot regions. The seat was comfortable and easy to adjust (I'm 225 lbs, 6 ft). The controls were good. My only complaint here is the information display is a little difficult to see when the car is pointing towards the sun. The ride is hard and any bad road imperfection will be felt inside the car. The car felt solid however the hard ride is a concern for future squeaks and rattles. It has a nice exhaust note inside the car. The engines torque doesn't kick in until the RPM's are passed 3.5K. I've driven a VW GTI 2008 and its 4 cyl turbo torque kicks in around 1.8K. You have to push the Genesis Coupe to get the smile factor going. The six speed is smooth however the Honda manuals are smoother. The stereo sounds good but on bad roads it does compete with the intruding noise. It has a small trunk probably due to the rear wheel drive geometry. The back seat looked usable but only on short trips. The back seat does fold forward for say carrying a snow board? I'm not brave enough to buy the initial year release of a auto. Also I want a little more utility so this car is definitely not a qualifier. Anyway I'm impressed with there initial rear wheel drive coupe offering. I've never driven the Tiburon. | |

Hyundai really should have added the DGI into it which would have added 20-40 horses. It sounds good initially when you step on the gas but it is a bit of a teaser getting up to speed . Otherwise it is definitely an impressive made car which a great chassis , handling characteristics and sporty interior. Cant' really fault hyundai to make the turbo progress in a steady fashion than to have it bullet the car to speed so that it will prevent you from making frequent visits to the gas station. so just some advice for those getting the 2.0T, can't wait until hyundai add the dgi into it eventually but want more juice out it(without breaking the bank) , add preimum fuel which increase horses from 210 to 223, add a performance air filter(2 or 3 horses) , replace the headers and cams with perfomance ones(2-3 horses) but don't mess around with the exhaust system or ECU (not worth the risks). If all of these things are done you could go from 210 to near 230 horses which should improve your 0-60 times from 7.2-7.5 sec to 6.7-6-9 range.

From what I've been reading when the GC is compared to other vehicles, Mustang GT(notice not v6 like other comp.) G37, Camaro, they all beat the GC in performance and handling but barely. I don't know about you guys, but besting the competition by 2 or 3 tenths of a second from 0-60 isn't all that. Let us all remember one thing here too, the competition as been at this for some years now and this is Hyundai's first attempt at RWD and look how close they are to the main competitors. Also of note: Ford really needs to do something with it's v6 powerplant. I mean if you have to use your v8 variant to compare against your v6 competitors and barely win, than what message does that really send. What do you guys think?
