Rear-window defogger & stickers/decals by srs5694

I've recently purchased a new (2008) Aveo LT 4-door sedan. Once I can get my hands on a new one, I intend to put a window sticker/decal in the rear window for my alma mater (Oberlin College). The problem is that the manual warns against putting stickers and decals over the rear-window defogger elements. The only way I can see to avoid this is to cut the sticker in two and put part of it on each side of the center brake light. This is a little awkward, but I can of course do it. I've seen other cars on the roads with rear-window stickers plastered on rear-window defogger elements, so I'm wondering what the reason is for the warning to not do this. Is the concern that the defogger elements could be damaged when applying a sticker, that the elements will damage the sticker and cause it to peel away or melt the glue, or what?
