This is my second Navigator, and truthfully I love my new truck as much as I loved my previous. I bought it in Lake Havasu AZ, (was on vacation when the A/C compressor let go in my old truck, so I traded it in etc..) and was driving home back to San Diego CA. Along a dark desert highway (little eagles joke) there are these "dips" in the road, and running through them 70 - 80'ish mph it lightly compresses the suspension. I noticed that when the suspension compresses, the steering wheel turns about 5 degrees to the right, and then returns to normal. If the dip was a little more severe, and it compressed further the steering wheel turns further, and if the suspension uncompressses then it goes to the left, which puts it into "uneasy" feeling territory. What I have surmised from this, is when the suspension compresses the rear end of the truck is "tracking" to the right, the steering wheel turns to the right and the truck is now driving like one of those 80's poorly lifted 4x4's kinda sideways down the road. Took it to the dealership over a week ago. They claim no problems, but also can not reproduce the problem here locally. No roads that have an area that we can use to replicate the problem. I spoke to a friend of mine that owns a body shop, he thinks one of the bags has a leak in the rear and is perhaps "softer" then the other side causing a leaning / sideways conditions? Any thoughts suggestions? Anybody else have this kind of problem with their truck? RD

I bought a 2003 Navigator with 59,000 miles. Truck runs very well and rides well. I was wondering how often the compressor for the air suspension should run. It runs briefly when I first get in a start it up, also runs when I add a passenger. I suspect this is just the suspension adjusting to the varying loads. After I get rolling down the highway, I don't seem to hear it run at all. The truck rides nice, and it does not "bounce" like I have heard others describe. I have the extended on it, but don't want to run to the repair shop if it is not needed. Thanks

| I HAVE A 1999 LINCOLN NAV. AND THE AIR RIDE SYSTEM ONLY WORKS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS A RELAY SOMEWHERE THAT WORKS EACH SIDE, BECAUSE I DONT SEE OR HEAR ANY LEAKS. | |

I have a 99 Navigator. I think its time to replace the front and rear shocks. Can I replace the front air shocks with regular shocks and replace the rear regular shocks leaving the air bags and air suspension intact? I replaced the air bags last year and I know that the rear has regular shocks and the air bags. When the time comes I will replace the air bags with coil springs, but not yet. If this is possible, would it be expensive to do?
