I had exactly same symptons on my jeep yesterday after wading through a large pond my mpg dropped to 8 and clouds of black smoke poured out. I guessed it was the O2 sensor so put my OBDII reader on today and sure enough it came back O2 sensor fault. Replaced it today and now seems to be working fine. Good Luck

Have a 1995 jeep grand cherokee with V-8, 318 cid. Can not find location to replace. Can I get to it without other parts removal? Thanks for any help.
