Sorry you had issues with your van. Ours is a 2005 that we bought new. We did have several issues at first with things that were wrong when we bought it (flickering lights, drooping moldings, minor rattle). Luckily for us they were all repaired under warranty in the first year. I'm curious what your complaints are. We've had ours for nearly 60K miles and my wife still says she wouldn't drive anything else. We're still on the factory brakes which to me is unheard of. The only out-of-pocket expense we've had is two front sway bar links ($72). After 3 1/2 years of hauling 4 kids around, we're still happy with it. All of the electronics, including DVD and wireless headphones are still working and we just got 25.1 mpg on a 1,300 mile trip we took last week. Your Escape's fuel tank must be must smaller than the Uplander's 25 gallon.
Again, I'm truly sorry that your Uplander was a lemon, but all of them aren't. If you look at all of the vans on Edmunds, Uplander has the fewest posts. I think that's because most people only post when they have problems and they are relatively few on the '07 and '08 models. Most people that have major issues usually have AWD too. Seems like it was not a good system on these vans. This was discontinued at the end of '06.

Oh, yes, the Escape's gas tank is a lot smaller but that's less $ to fill and more mpg. I drive a lot, so that is a priority. I still only fill up once per week, so I'm saving $100 per month on gas. I had a lemon 2007 Uplander LS Ext FWD which I bought "certified used" in 2007 with 21k miles. The problems started three months after I bought it. It had faulty wiring which made it inoperable three separate times. Was repaired under warranty but left me stranded, once out of state. The battery failed prematurely and had to be replaced at around 30k miles. My sliding doors would freeze shut almost every day in the winter and it's not fun loading kids in car seats from the front. I have lived in Ohio for many years and have never had a car do that. The steering column was replaced because of grinding and shaking. It had somehow bent. There was a loud rattle underneath that I later found out was the emergency brake line or something like that. I had tires that would deflate randomly which I'm aware are just tires, but the dealer couldn't find a leak anywhere. A rim bent for no reason (didn't hit anything). Dealer pounded back out. That ruined another tire. The kicker, my serpentine belt shredded and pulley went out while driving down the busiest street in town. Lost power steering and barely made it into a parking lot with my 2 year old in the back. That was at about 43k miles. Warranty was out but thankfully dealer fixed it for free and gave me a free loaner because they said that should not have happened to a vehicle so new. I would also find little plastic pieces of I don't even know what on the floorboard of interior parts that would just break. My kids were strapped in their seats, so I know they didn't break them. It violently shook until the day I traded it in. I was so happy to get rid of that thing I almost didn't care about the $11,000 in negative. It really bothers me though that all GM offered was $2000 off a new GM. See, my husband signed a binding arbitration agreement when we bought it without realizing he had signed our legal rights away, so we could not sue GM under the lemon law. We did file a complaint with the BBB and asked our local news station to help with a resolution, but they didn't want anything to do with it. Conflict of interest I think. I have read reviews on every website I could find and my problems don't seem to be the minority. They seem to be a common occurance among these vans. Sad to say I owned it for 13 months and it was in the shop 13 times. I only put 25k miles on it and it has been a horrible experience. I have had other GM vehicles, but because of this, I will NEVER own another. My husband and I argued and argued with GM and they could care less about the safety hazzards they put out on the roads. I'm glad you have had better luck.

The disdain for GM is more than justified. You will need stamina and luck.

And some outdated, but possibly useful info is here: http://www.pistonslap.com/gmcontacts.htm

Thank you, but I don't know how much we can still fight GM since we don't own the vehicle anymore. We're still out more than $22,000 with nothing to show for it. Honestly, since my own lawyer can't help, I would rather just put it behind us and get out to as many people as possible not to sign any type of arbitration agreement when buying a vehicle. That's where we went wrong. My neighbor said he was driving around town one day not too long ago and saw an Uplander on the side of the road smoking. There is something seriously wrong with these vans. I'm just so thankful I was able to get rid of mine. My children's safety is well worth the $22,000.
