Over the past 33 years there have been no fewer than five incarnations of the 3 Series — each and every one of them a roaring success. It looks like the 2009 BMW 3 Series will be no exception.

"BMW claims the 330d will do zero to 60 mph in just 6.1 seconds, which makes the diesel quicker up the strip than the 330i. What makes it all the more impressive is the official consumption, which is put at 41 mpg"

Where did you guys get the 41 mpg figure? Is that what you observed? I thought this car was rated 32 mpg.

Not coincidentally, the torque figure is the exact same as the torque figure for the M5 and M6's V10. The V10 doesn't produce this until 6,100 rpm!

"...245-hp, turbocharged, 3.0-liter inline-6 diesel in the 330d. It is the latter unit that holds the biggest interest right now, having been chosen to spearhead BMW's diesel offensive here in the U.S. once fitted with the German carmaker's new Blue Performance technology."

please note that the 335d, not the 330d, is the one coming to the US (for now anyway). If I am wrong I would be ecstatic, though!

Not only is the 335d the only diesel car they're allowing in (by they, I mean BMWUSA), but it comes only with an automatic.

A 320d or 325d would suit me just fine, with a manual, of course -- swap out the run-flats and drive!

Not anytime soon, I'm thinking, if ever. So, I continue to drive an appliance.

If torque is what everyone's lusting for,..the 09 335d and 09 Audi S4 will be in the forth comming spot light. It should be an interesting match. I wonder if the S4 will come in a manual.

Looks like I might have to sell my newly purchased 335i! It all depends on the reviews on this new S4. I'll take a couple grand hit to get that car if it's worth it any day of the week!

I sure wish Audi was a couple months quicker with this debut.

I sure wish you'd taken the advice from the rest of us and gotten yourself a Lexus.

Dinan, renowned tuners of all things from the propeller people, have finally decided to offer an ECU upgrade for owners of BMW's delectable 335i. The reflashed upgrade necessitates the installation of either BMW's or Dinan's oil cooler, but once the Bimmer's brain is reprogrammed, throttle response is sharpened, the top-speed governor is removed and power levels jump to 384 hp at 5,700 rpm and a kidney pummeling 421 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,300 rpm.

Just get yourself a Dinan chip and be done with it. Or sell the Bimmer, and get an Infiniti G37.
