mitsubishi endevor 04 leaks when it rains and was told it will cost $93 per hour to find the problem. The problem is a manufacturer defect in design.My front passenger side is soaked when it rains and since it doesnt dry properly mold is growing in my car because I can see it. It doesn't take long to grow. my eyes burn when I get in to drive and I live in Florida so it rains a lot. I've had to stop wearing contacts and went to a eye specialist for a year until I realized it's the mold in the car. I can't avoid the rain in Florida so now my eyes are going to be the problem because of a manufacturer defect that is not being fixed. I smell a lawsuit because I can't afford $93 per hour to find a leak. I've already paid too much to repaint the peeling paint job because of sloppy and cheap manufacturer cost saving strategy that obviously didn't think of the consumer coming back to gripe.

i believe your leak is in the evaporator . this is common due to the fact that the endeavor's drain is poorly designed. what happens is that the drain hole underneath the car is plugged. it doesn't take much to plug it either. the water backs up to the evap and leaks on to the passsenger side of the floor. i took mine to the dealer and he wanted 500.00 to see if he could fix it. i took it home and did it myself for nothing. jack up your car. be sure to put jack stands underneath. on the driver side, at the bottom of the firewall, there are 2 brake lines that run along there. behind the brake lines there is a hole about the size of your little finger. it will take you a little while to locate it because you can't really see it unless you have a mirror. it is directly behind the lines and almost impossible to find. once you locate it you will have to take some wire to stick up in there and wiggle it around as much as you can untill you get through the dirt in the hole. once you do that, be prepared to get soaked because the water will be coming. i also cleaned it out with my air compressor. no more leak, no more mold since. it was a hassle but at least the dealer didn't get my money. thanks for that info. I will buy a six pack and see if that will get someone more knowledgeable than me to go for this challenge without taking out my brake line. Excuse my ignorance but since it only leaks when it rains what role does the evaporator play in draining rain water which should have never entered the car in the first place?

good idea for the 6 pack, but you don't have to take off the brake lines at all. allthough the hole is right behind the lines, you can still get a piece of wire up in there. if you are absolutely sure that yours leaks only when it rains, then check firewall and floor area on the passenger side for a missing or craked floor pan grommet. another way of telling if you are leaking from the evap tray, is to put some dry paper towel on the floor and drive your car around. if your tray is full of water, it will leak more when you make right and left turns. if you get water, that means your tray is full and you need to free the drain line like i said. either way, try it out before you take it to the dealer unless you got the money. It took him a while to find the hole and yes he did need that mirror. He found the hole and said the wire went in left and also to the right but he couldnt get it to go in far either way.....so I didn't get to see him get soaked with water.did you have to go straight up with that wire or did you see 2 areas to go left or right? it's an 04 endeavor. we didnt have to put it on a jack since the SUV sits high off the ground. is it possible that hole is not clogged so I might have another problem? or do I need to drill a hole in the bottom of my truck? Replying to: concreteboy (Apr 05, 2009 6:39 am) Estimate from the best AC people to fix is $953. He says bad Mitsubishi design. They used a foam material in the evaporator and it deteriorates in 3 to 5 years. Only fix is pull the dash and replace. GM uses a rubber sponge which never has a problem. This really sucks.

I even pulled up the carpeting and the foam under it to see if it leaks when the AC is on and it doesnt. Only when it rains then the water gathers in the front passenger side where there is a dip for water settling......I'm not sure what it's for but the space under there is large enough to hold a gallon of water and I heard it slushing around so I got fed up and pulled it up and it was full of water. I believe there is mold in my truck from this water staying in the car and I had to go to the eye specialist for a year and they had no idea why my eyes were hurting and now I know. The mold in my car because of the water. That design flaw in the truck is what caused the problem and I shouldnt have to pay $90 per hour to get it fixed. That's the quote I got from the dealer to find the problem. I smell a class action suit. Anyone else has a design flaw like this? I think the manufacturers should do a recall and fix this. I already paid to repaint because they used very little clear coat on the truck and it started peeling after 4 years which should not happen. Poor workmanship based on saving money.
