Oddly enough, the only time the clutch on my 2.0 liter Mazda3 is a bit touchy is when I'm in reverse. I've yet to figure out why letting it out in the same manner as when in first gear generates such different results.

The upcoming Mazda3 (to be showcased in Detroit later this month) falls short in terms of weight reduction, fuel economy and functional design. At the same autoshow the new Honda Insight and Toyota Prius will be unveiled; having the three cars on display should make for an interesting comparo.

The CRX-looking Honda Insight is definitely on the right track when it comes to its 2740 lb. weight and 41 mpg fuel economy. This model has a future.

Have heated seats and mirrors as an option w/o leather. I see they got rid of the dumb antennae.
Also, make the ashtray and lighter an option. Then get rid of RSA eagle tires for winter states.lastly a 5 spd manual.
I don't like VW's but, if I can buy a Rabbit with a cold weather package( heated seats and a 5 speed
and sunroof good by Zoom Zoom.
I have an I New value loaded, but the VW cabin is richer looking.I bought my Mazda 6/08 and it has 4800 mi on it and two sets of tires. I was going to buy the 2010 Mazda 3 but the car an options are the same except for styling. I 'd rather get a 5sp and heated seats plus the rabbit can act as a hatch for me. So whoever buys my car is getting a deal. I put a nice clear mask on it thinking I use it more.

While I certainly agree on the heated mirrors and the Eagle RS-A tires (and don't care either way about the antennae, the heated seats and the ashtray), I don't understand your comment about the 5-Speed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but ALL versions of the Mazda3s come with a 5-Speed as the base transmission with the automatic as the option. Yes, no?

Regarding the Rabbit, that was my top choice for a new car (with the Mazda3 a very close second) last fall when I was looking, unfortunately, due to the MKV to MKVI model change-over, U.S. spec Rabbits are no longer being produced (and won't be again until sometime this Summer). I spent the better part of two months shopping around for a 5-Speed model, and after hearing, "Are you sure we cannot interest you in a Rabbit with an automatic transmission?" for the umpteenth time, I finally gave up my quest for the VW and bought a Mazda3 i Touring Value Edition with a 5-Speed.

FWIW, I've had the Mazda for almost ten weeks now and am just about to turn over 6,000 miles on it. Other than needing to replace the Eagle RS-A tires at the 700 mile mark (with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires), and wishing I had the time to install a set of heated exterior mirrors (you can order them from your dealership or from a few online sources), the car has been perfect.

Best Regards,
Shipo

Shipo, I bought the exact car you did
except I got an auto transmission.(MISTAKE) Galaxy gray, same package as you sunroof, ashtray now used for change and got a black 12 volt plug to replace the ugly lit cigarette lighter and a small shark finn antennae to replace that foolish whip.I also put a clear mask on 1/4 the hood.
I took the RSA's off on way home from dealer. I put Dunlop Sport Signatures on it. The Eagles are over my garage.
I have an 05 Types S six speed that gets better milage than the Mazda 3. Plus I can get stuff at HomeDepot.
I tried the HB with 2.3 and the gas milage was terrible.Mazda should make a 2 door HB 2.0 with a 5 spd and sunroof and cloth heated seats. Why should you have to buy a Grand Touring Package? Also, what's wrong with 16" alloys?I don't care for a four door hatch either.
I'm not a big fan of VW ,but you can get the cold weather package w/o leather and the cabin is richer than a Mazda 3.
I know Mazda wants the car to be light, but felt carpeting hidden by Mazda 3 velcroe floormats.Whats with all the plastic in engine compartment and styrofoam in between grille?
The car runs perfect, but I'm still going to look at the V Dub when it come out. I think it's a 2.5 litre w/ 5spd is for me.This may sound nuts, but look at 3dr Saturn Astra comes with heated seats ,but no sunroof. Ford Focus had a ZX 5 think a HB with all the bells and whistles, heated seats moon roof etc;.pw doors locks. Now thet just have a sedan . All the good cars are in Europe. If that Honda Civic EXL had a lumbar supprt and some torque plus stylying it could give Mazda some competetion.
Well, if you see some fun rides coming along let me know because the Mazda has to go.
                                        Best Regards

I'f GM would take the turbo four from the Cobalt SS and stuff it in the Astra(with an adequate suspension and brakes, of course) I'd be very inclined to buy one. Especially if the sunroof remained optional.

I just compared a Hundai Elantra touring(i think) to a Mazda 3 HB touring and Hundai has a 2.0L 5 sp.,AN optional sunroof, heated seats and 17inch alloys and tires..$3300.00 lower than the Mazda dealer quoted me.I 've never been in a Hundai.
I have a nice mint Acura Type S, a 65 Sting Ray(trying to find an ignition reduction shield for it.)327 short block been offered alot for it. My wife will go first.
My problem is I'm tight and took a step down to the Mazda. Maybe, if I bought the 2.3 L with the 5pd I'd be happier.I can go from 2nd to 6th in the Acura 55 k before limiter kicks in.
That Chevy Cobalt is a sleeper and the SS turbo put in that small 3 dr Astra would be a track car.GM, Ford and now the nippons aren't getting it. They try to make you buy options, or upgrade.
