The Hyundai warranty being much superior of course. The Accent hatch beats out the Fit for interior volume and warranty too. hyundai's idea of a sport tuned suspension is laughable. if the se was so great, every auto journalism site would be raving how much better it is than the fit. the warranty is superior though. interior volume?hmmm...honestly cant say, but the hatch only comes in a three door: more volume or not, thats not as practical. not to mention that the fits cargo space whips the accent with the seats down. and the move to a four door accent nets you a trunk, not a hatch. I think the Fiesta would offer just as much as the Mini ,but at least 2 k lower. Like I said I test drove the new GTI $30k and to me it was the same as the 09 $26,900 (sunroof 18' wheels mandatory) VW is bringing a Golf R 280 HP don't know price,but I bet the Mazda Speed is lower in price. What do you think Roger Penski could do w/Astrsa nice car,but no torque? Since the Mini I tried was $24800.00 with Preformance pkg, and cold weather pkg. I'll wait on the Fiesta. Like I said I test drove the new GTI $30k and to me it was the same as the 09 $26,900 (sunroof 18' wheels mandatory) VW is bringing a Golf R 280 HP don't know price,but I bet the Mazda Speed is lower in price. again, the GTI and the fiesta are for two different markets, just because you are corss shopping them does not mean they were intended to be. the new GTI is not 30k. optioned out yes, but a base model will be in the low to mid 20's. the Golf R is a middlepoint between sti/evo type cars and gti/mazdaspeed3 type cars. and its expensive because unlike the speed, it has an interior worthy of a much more expensive price tag, has awd AND its limited run. they usually only release 5k of them.

Because the North American version will be built in Mexico and cheaper to produce than the European version; I think many of the comments over emphasizing possible changes Ford may make to our version of the Fiesta. I think Ford has realized that to compete in the small car segment it has to offer more than just low prices and will ensure the base Fiesta (mid $13K range) and higher optioned S version (High $14K range) will include many higher end options not offered by its competitors. Judging from the video of the Pikes Peak Fiesta I saw on FiestaForce.com I don't think Ford will have a problem introducing an ST or R version for the US market. Hope to test drive the US version when its available early next year

I will say that the Hyundai has a great warranty, but the interior is just far too low-rent for my tastes. However, engine power compares very favorably especially when one editor commented that he thought the car had 140 horses before he looked at the spec sheet. But Hyundai does not offer theirs in a 5-door configuration (which is likely what I would get). I also feel that it stacks up very well against the Honda Fit, and offers just as much if not more in the fun-to-drive department. Its great to see that Ford is finally seeing the light and offering some great fuel-efficient vehicles for the money, especially the Fusion Hybrid. But for those who don't need a full size family car and need something for A-B commuting and some road trips, this thing stacks up very well, save for a slight shortage of cargo room. If this thing gets 38 mpg like Ford is claiming, they have a true winner. I think it is pretty sleek looking too, which should draw some people into the show room. And where else can you get push button start on a compact? Nice touch. Another downside though for road trips is a too-short 5th gear. They either need to make 5th taller or add 6th. Although those who buy an automatic will not run into this issue (which that will most likely account for most sales anyway). Great job so far Ford, keep up the good work! Replying to: tib2006 (Oct 07, 2009 7:48 pm) Whats your problem of not being able to purchase a Hyundai Accent 5 Door Hatch? Ever heard of a Kia Rio5? Its the same identical vehicle as the Accent! Same car, same warranty, same manufacturer, same price. I have a 06` Kia Rio5 SX Hatch and love it! A great mini-wagon. In 2011 Kia should be replacing the Rio with a new B Class vehicle to compete with the new Ford Fiesta. Ford will have to match the 5 years bumper to bumper to get me to switch. Warranty matched with great quality is tough to get away from.

The SE is as nice as any of these, and nicer than most. Have you even sat in one, or just looked at pics on-line? This is from Automobile.com: " I never thought that I would be saying this, but the Accent really does feel like a quality machine, and it's something the competition probably wasnt expecting. Poke your nose in that engine bay, and you'll find that theres weather-stripping all around to keep dust out, a jacket to insulate the battery so that it stays warm in the winter, and no wiring left exposed to the elements. Even the seams where metal meets metal around the bay are properly joined, a sign of true quality. You cant find these things in a Yaris..."

I drove Focus hatchbacks until they stopped making them and have a Fit now. It's great fun to drive and if you keep the revs up, plenty of pep. Looking forward to driving the Fiesta when it shows up.
