Of course you can push the price to $22K+. Apparently one can even get the MSRP of a Hyundai Accent to $18-19K, that does not mean that most or many people are going there.
 
All I am saying is that most buyers have not been interested in a subcompact at that price level and I do not see that changing, I guess we will have to wait and see if it does.
 
$20 or 22K is certainly currently far above what the typical buyer of these small cars has been paying for them.

reports that subcompacts were selling for an average $14,217 as of about 1.5 years ago.
  
To get back to the topic, I will predict that the Fiesta will feature a base price of no more than $13,xxx and I will be very surprised if it starts above $15K, let alone above $16K as Edmunds has predicted.

Yes - back to the Fiesta. I'm looking forward to driving one next year and the 5-door hatch looks good in photos. The sedan not so much.
 
As for pricing I'd guess Ford will bring in a "low tier" base model under $15K. Probably $14,XXX plus destination so they can offer a $14,900 entry price.
 
Then again I thought Honda would keep the Insight under $19K and I missed on that one. Honda went too high, too soon on the Insight but the exchange rates also forced their hand somewhat.

You and I are of the same mind. I figure $14,995 for a base model Fiesta with a stick. And at that price, in this market, a power package and Sync had better be standard. ABS and ESC will be mandated by the time this hits the market, so those will be in the base price as well.
 
That leaves room to add combinations of leather, a sport package, a moonroof, or a luxury package with auto climate, radar-cruise, NAV, whatever, and keep the price under $20K. Maybe $22K for every option including NAV plus an automatic.

It will be priced along the other cars in the segment. However the Fiesta will offer more options, and superior engineering. I'd have to say I'm impressed with mine.

The Accent SE, with it's quicker steering rack, sport-tuned suspension, B&M short-shifter, and available AEM intake compares quite favorably to the Fiesta.... at a similar price. The Hyundai warranty being much superior of course. The Accent hatch beats out the Fit for interior volume and warranty too.
 
hyundai's idea of a sport tuned suspension is laughable. if the se was so great, every auto journalism site would be raving how much better it is than the fit. the warranty is superior though.
 
interior volume?hmmm...honestly cant say, but the hatch only comes in a three door: more volume or not, thats not as practical. not to mention that the fits cargo space whips the accent with the seats down.
 
and the move to a four door accent nets you a trunk, not a hatch.

Well, the Fiesta is due to arrive in Feb.or March. I hopt the tatium model is available.
            The V dub prices are out of sight. I think the Fiesta would offer just as much as the Mini ,but at least 2 k lower.
                  Like I said I test drove the new GTI $30k and to me it was the same as the 09 $26,900 (sunroof 18' wheels mandatory) VW is bringing a Golf R 280 HP don't know price,but I bet the Mazda Speed is lower in price.
             What do you think Roger Penski could do w/Astrsa nice car,but no torque?
  Since the Mini I tried was $24800.00 with Preformance pkg, and cold weather pkg. I'll wait on the Fiesta.

why does everyon think the fiesta is a mini competitor? its not. not on price at least. the mini plays on a different level,DESPITE its size.
 
i'd love to see an astra with torque and a proper engine/automatic.

again, the GTI and the fiesta are for two different markets, just because you are corss shopping them does not mean they were intended to be.
 
the new GTI is not 30k. optioned out yes, but a base model will be in the low to mid 20's.
 
the Golf R is a middlepoint between sti/evo type cars and gti/mazdaspeed3 type cars.
 
and its expensive because unlike the speed, it has an interior worthy of a much more expensive price tag, has awd AND its limited run. they usually only release 5k of them.
