If they americanize it too much, they now run the risk of the first reports, when the US version comes out, being how disappointing the car is after having tested the euro version months ago. Not sure how they come up with their estimated price. The article says: "...begins with a stripped-down price equivalent to $16,233 by our estimates. And since the least expensive 2010 Ford Focus S sedan you can buy will cost $16,690..." But the in the UK the Fiesta starts at 72% of the starting price of the Focus, so I would be surprised if in the US they start at 97% of Focus price. http://www.ford.co.uk/Cars

If you compare an comparably priced Accent to this car, (not the base $10,000 car) it does have good safety features....ABS, EBD, and tire-pressure monitoring system etc. Again, just being fair. The Accent SE, with it's quicker steering rack, sport-tuned suspension, B&M short-shifter, and available AEM intake compares quite favorably to the Fiesta.... at a similar price. The Hyundai warranty being much superior of course. The Accent hatch beats out the Fit for interior volume and warranty too. Replying to: hako (Sep 07, 2009 1:03 pm) I think it's going to depend on what mix the Fiesta has...if it offers TSC/ESC at all, it beats the Accent. If ABS is available on more than just the top trim, it's going to beat the Accent. Other than that, the Accent is indeed pretty good...provided you get the top trim anyway. Other vehicles in this class are noticeably lacking in safety features (curious considering they have the most need for it).

My son has a 6 spd. Versa, and it's a perfectly fine car. It gives him 30 mpg. average and cruises very well on the highway. It's just the car for him, but he doesn't LOVE to drive like I do. I believe the subcompacts ("B" cars) will divide into two tiers: economy cars like the Versa, Accent, etc., which are inexpensive to buy and own, but just transportation, and the top-end cars (Fiesta, Fit, VW Polo) which handle very well and are well appointed, but cost thousands more. We can buy the car that fits our needs/wants. I want in a sub compact like the Fiesta ,heated seats , leather,sunroof and voice control. I doubt I'll get it in the Accent,Versa, Scion,or the new Ford as we always get the dumb down cars from Europe. The car is the Fiesta Titanium and the cost would be around $21000.00 So I will keep my BMW and buy a sub compact to use around Avon, Vail . We don't have cities in the Rockies. Although, I might check out the new Golf. Have a good day..

Nothing wrong with offering econo-boxes, but I believe a market has long existed (in the $20K-$23K range) for an upper-level sub-compact. Times are certainly a changin' and a high-end, 100cu.ft. vehicle has buyers and profit potential at $22K. I hope Detroit can deliver because the Asians and Europeans will be..... I don't think there really is much of a market for $22K subcompacts in the US. CAFE will force this to occur and dozens are currently in the works. CAFE does not force anyone to buy and certainly does not force anyone to pay premium prices for subcompacts. In fact, it has caused manufacturers to sell small cars at a loss in the past. The new CAFE is structured differently, I believe, but I'm not really familiar with the details.
