Comparison Test: 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 vs. 2008 Lexus GS 350 - Hyundai isn't shy about its targets for the Genesis. "While Genesis will compete for customers with cars like Lexus ES, Chrysler 300 and Cadillac CTS," the company stated in a press release about the car's pricing, "Genesis' performance capabilities and luxury features are comparable to sedans costing tens of thousands of dollars more." The competitors are Lexus ES/GS, Buick Lucerne, Lincoln MKS, Chrysler 300 and Cadillac DTS. Toyota was worried about the Azera, Sonata and planned Veracruz three years ago per its CEO; how do you think they feel now about the Genesis? |

These numbers do not support your claim that hyundai is taking any advantage of it. Check the true cost to own index. There's not much difference between a 2008 sonata and a 2008 accord although the camry was higher to own. This with the Sonata being a couple of thousands cheaper to buy initially. see for your self at http://www.edmunds.com/apps/cto/intro.do

That does not mean that a fast person is the same thing as a lightning bolt. It is just an illustrative way to say that the person is fast. That's it. Almost any person can understand something when it is illustrated to them in a familiar manner. Hyundai is comparing the speed of a Genesis to a Porsche, the handling/braking numbers to BMW, and the sound system to a Rolls. These comparisons are not on a 1:1 basis. A Genesis is not a Rolls. It is also not a Porsche. But when you say Porsche, you understand "fast". When you say BMW, you understand that the car must handle well, and when you hear Rolls, you generally understand that the car has luxury features. Good grief, if there was a Volvo comparison for safety, would you still be confused? By the way, yes, I know that the Genesis got a 5 star crash rating in all 4 crash tests and the rollover test. I also can recite all of the top flight safety equipment that the Genesis brings. Does that mean that it's the same car as a S80? No, it just says, hey, I am a safe car. Say it with me now. I own a Lexus and I want to continue to feel as though the extra $10,000 to $30,000 was worth something. Dude, just enjoy your car. A really nice Hyundai coming in to the world does not dismiss the validity of any other brand. It simply offers the world another great choice to spend it's money on. |

Let's not get too far off track though. There are other forums where we can talk about prices, features, and professional reviews of midsize sedans.

I also heard rumors about suspension issues with the genesis . Is that right at the least. Please check the genesis posts on this very forum about the issue. Or should we start an other thread with Hyundai XXXX Vs BMW XXXX vs Lexus XXXX New Car Suspension problems.

If I have the option to save that money up front, or wait several years to get that money back (MAYBE), I'll choose the first option so that I can invest the money I've saved and still come out ahead in the end. Thats not a bad Idea at all and I agree with you. Unfortunately every year close 900,000 buyers in this segment think otherwise and still buy an Accord or Camry every year. My point is " If buyers in the mid size segment are not caring on taking money upfront and investing on these two cars for safe keeping" Why would the buyers in the Luxury segment even blink before buying their respective favorite Toys( BMW, MZ, V, Cadillac, Lexus, Porsche, Acura to name a few). I in no way belittle Hyundai's Genesis. To the contrary I test drove it twice for a friend and thought its a good Car. Probably I can buy two of these babies for ( $30,000.00 ) each instead of getting my fully loaded Beemer. would I be interested? No Cause : These babies have to grow more and prove to be trustworthy of being on my my driveway. |

What I find very impressive is the fact that there is a car on the market that is just as good as a Lexus GS for around $10,000 less, and almost as good as a BMW 5-series for $15,000 to $20,000 less. Be sure to note that I agree the BMW 5-series is still a better car than the Genesis- just not by as much as some people would like to admit. I know that if I had spent $10,000 to $20,000 more for a car, I sure would want to justify it too. Maybe something like "hmmm, well my Lexus dealer treats me like I'm at a country club, so at least I can experience the illusion of having a lot more money than I actually do." Or, something like "well, when people see my BMW they will know how successful I am." Hey, whatever makes you happy. |

Not hard at all to understand. Perception takes a long time to change. Are you forgetting how it took decades for Honda and Toyota to change their perception? I guess I'll just have to be one of the the lonely people who went against the the popular trend and bought a Hyundai. I sure hope I don't regret it. Yeah, that was sarcasm. It beat up on my last Hyundai. I skipped oil changes and timing belt replacements for thousands of miles. I drove it like I stole it all the time, and, yet, it never failed me and was still running strong with just under 200,000 miles. I now own my 2nd Hyundai, and it has proven to be a just as good of a car. Sorry, bud. I don't need your propaganda. How bout we stick specifically to Genesis-related topics. There are general forums where you can try to convince everyone why Brand X is so much better than Brand Y. This isn't the place. |

I myself was looking at a 2009 Maxima or Accord to comfortably fit my family of 4, be assuring, with all available options, be sporty. I think I got more that all that I can get in a maxima or accord. I even got it at a bargain $ 30150.00 + TTL. and everyone was looking at it for the few miles I drove. It never felt this good in a new Car. As far as the comparison with Lexus or BMW is concerned I dont Care if its even better , good or worse than them because I was not even thinking of these makes. The only luxury car thought of was a mercedes C class purely because it was in the price range around $32500.00. I am happy I got a larger car and more options than a C Class and with more warranty. |
