Comparison Test: 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 vs. 2008 Lexus GS 350 - Hyundai isn't shy about its targets for the Genesis. "While Genesis will compete for customers with cars like Lexus ES, Chrysler 300 and Cadillac CTS," the company stated in a press release about the car's pricing, "Genesis' performance capabilities and luxury features are comparable to sedans costing tens of thousands of dollars more." Of course, the $10,000 money savings helps. Actually the Genesis 3.8 is rated 18/27 and the GS350 is rated 19/27. I will admit the Genesis is a much larger car. If the GS350 is $10,000 more, most of that will be eaten up by the difference in the dealer discounts. I know for a fact the GS350 can be had for a $7,000 discount off MSRP. Just looked up the MPG at www.Carsdirect.com. They get $2,763 over MSRP for the Premium package which you are interested in. That is $9,763 of your $10,000 difference !!! Hyundai themselves is comparing the Genesis to a Porsche Boxter. The previous comparison of the Sonata to a Camry & Accord is night and day closer than comparing a 4 door sedan to a 2 door converible. At least the RL is a 4 door luxury sedan. I am not saying it shouldn't but there is nothing wrong w/ it. When even the professionals are comparing the Genesis to the luxury counterparts, then that might give some hints to the caliber of the car. By your logic, the Japanese contenders (minus the pathetic RL) shouldn't be compared to the Germans because cars like BMW and MB are priced much higher than that of the Lexus and Infiniti. Go drive the car and find out for yourself. I for sure know an RL's Nav touch screen is far superior to any in its class I disagree. I've found Audi's MMI system to be the best overall navigation system. I have not had much playing time with the system in the Genesis but initial impressions are very good. It's closer to the MMI than the complicated i-Drive. RL's is also very good, I found, but too few people know about it

The Boxster had a weight advantage of over a ton, and still came in almost a second slower - should note Genesis does have the power advantage but still. I believe they also did a test with the 750i, with the Genesis finishing ahead. Steep discounts of a Lexus vehicle, for example, would get few criticism, bashing, or become the subject of a joke. Actually the Genesis 3.8 is rated 18/27 and the GS350 is rated 19/27. I think the OP said regular gas so I would call this one even FWIW, the mere weight of the Genesis, its fuel economy in both the 6 and the 8 has to be well-respected. Fuel-efficiency was never Hyundai's forte, and while still average, they are catching up super-fast, with several models in the fleet grabbing the lead pack in its respective classes - the Genesis being one, another I can think of right now is the Sonata, which I believe is higher than both Accord and Camry. No porshe Boxter buyer let alone a 750i buyer will ever consider it - right now. Replying to: adamjmank (Sep 12, 2008 12:04 pm) Price is NEVER my primary concern, but rather how well I like the car and what it has to offer. That is why I got an Azera instead of a Lexus ES or Acura TL or Infiniti G35. BTW, the ES is too much like a Camry.
