Comparison Test: 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 vs. 2008 Lexus GS 350 - Hyundai isn't shy about its targets for the Genesis. "I'm writing this because I'm getting a little tired of Carolinabob's constant bashing of Hyundai and especially the Azera.... No disrespect intended at Carolinabob"
  No Disrespect?
I am only sharing my experiences with the car and Hyundai. Fortunately, Hyundai contacted me and appears that a solution is on the way.
The major purpose of these forums is so that posters can share their experiences and create a more knowledgeable consumer. That is my purpose.
If you disagree with what I say, don't read it. BTW, each entry has been in response to something someone else said.
I am glad you are happy with your car. I also wonder how many people may not be aware that it is a problem? If not for these blogs and a couple of reviews, I wouldn't have realized it was the car and not me.

carolinabob,

I really meant the no disrespect writing...I think I may have written it a little harsh...for that I am truly sorry.
I apologize for having rattled the cage a little...please accept my apology.

I just wanted to share my positive experience with my Azera.

I'd buy you a bottle of wine but you're way too far from me.

Regards,

Accepted. Sometimes we all get a little too "intense." As I have said before if the ride was better, the car would be a 10 in all categories. Hopefully, the new struts Hyundai promised will do the trick and this will restore my confidence in Hyundai and make the Genesis a consideration for me.

Doing a comparison test with luxury cars based on value makes no sense. A buyer who is in the market for one of these very expensive cars is not going to be persuaded to buy the Hyundai based on its price advantage, they are looking for name recognition and proven reliability and performance regardless of the price in most circumstances. Have any of you ever been to a Lexus dealership? Somebody in the market for a Lexus GS wouldn't be caught dead in a Hyundai dealership anyway.

I just received the Oct 08 Motor Trend and in there is a test of the Genesis 4.6 and it is tested against a Chrysler 300C, a Lexus GS 460, and a Mercedes E550. It is a very interesting read in that it outdoes or compares very favorably in all the test categories. Perhaps most telling is the closing statement to the entire article.

...Is the Genesis a knockoff? Absolutely. A knockout? More of a jarring right-left combination that'll leave Lexus a bit dazed, shuffling a step or two back, and realizing that Hyundai deserves its full attention and respect. After all, what's Lexus to do when Hyundai actually builds a luxury sedan that doesn't cost half as much?

Articles in a magazine or a web site is, for, selling the ad in mag or web. As long as it can caught your attention, it will say wahtever you need.

I am not saying the Hyndai cannot be a lux brand. But using value as a pitch? man, that is not going to work. Anybody still remember when Lexus started, around 91 or so, its Tv ad featuring a stack of wine glasses on a LS hood?

I can safely claim, whoever wants to drive a Lexus, either rich or pretend to be rich, won't ever consider a Hyndai in a normal circumstances. Whoever drived a Hyundai thinks he gets an equivalent of Lexus, keep thinking that way.

It's a laughing stock that somebody says 80% of money for 95% of car. There's no such equation in the world of Lux. Just look at the fashion industry, a woman's bag can set u back 3 grand. Yes, you can go to a Macy and get a bag (very good one, such as Coach) for 10% of the money. (I don't want to mention walmart where u can buy a bag with 2% becuase that is irrelevant, I think.)

If there is one thing to take from these comparos, it would be the fact the Hyundai Genesis CAN go head to head with its competitors without the adjustment for the price factor. Try this stat: 44% of Genesis owners so far have household income of over $100,000. What does that tell me? It tells me these buyers can also afford its competitors (i.e. GS, M) but instead gone for the Genesis. The majority of the demographic has also previously owned other luxury models and/or is in the market for one, I guess there goes your theory.

I would like to challenge your theory with some facts. As I stated before, 44% of Genesis owners have household income of over $100K; also, the majority of the demographic has owned other luxury models, including Lexus, and/or is in the market for one.

I have driven (drived ) the Genesis, and I thought it was a fantastic sedan, having gone above my expectations in many areas. Frankly, I'd prefer the Genesis to the GS, as the ride of the Lexus is a bit too soft for my likes; while the Genesis offers a balanced combination, between the GS and the 5er, for example.

As I was driving the Genesis, I never once thought I was getting an equivalent of a Lexus, a certain percentage of a Lexus for whatever price I was offered, but rather, I genuinely thought I was getting a Genesis, 100% made by Hyundai

Apparently your household economcs is different from mine. My own standard is, I would have had at least triple of your figure to be confortable to drive a GS.

Believe I replied to your post before, and I stated that again, I don't believe to buy a lux car on borrowed money. I used the fashion business as an example, and I think a GS is over the mark that it is not a life necessity and there is other aspects buying a GS than value.

I am not knocking down a Hyundai. It is all good if it wants to move up the ladder but I do think it will not fly on the face of value.
