Comparison Test: 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 vs. 2008 Lexus GS 350 - Hyundai isn't shy about its targets for the Genesis. "While Genesis will compete for customers with cars like Lexus ES, Chrysler 300 and Cadillac CTS," the company stated in a press release about the car's pricing, "Genesis' performance capabilities and luxury features are comparable to sedans costing tens of thousands of dollars more." Every time a new car hits the market, it doesn't matter what it is, it wins the heart of Insideline editors. Also, regardless of the $7,000 price difference it's a fair comparison to the editors. Better yet, although the editors admit that the Lexus beats the Huyndai in performance and build quality, they still chose the Hyundai to be a better car. Well, that's why Edmunds.com is not considered as a reliable source of information for new car comparisons. Here is what Jermy Clarkson said on "The Good the Bad and the Ugly" that describes Insideline's thinking pretty well: "...Americans favor the cheap and the rubbish..."

Though you may feel that way and even though your entire cohort group of friends might feel that way, you need to remember that you represent only a very tiny fraction of opinion holders in the world and without some hard data or really good reasons to back up statements like that, your opinions mean NOTHING to me. And I wouldn't be surprised to find out that a huge majority on here agree with me on that one. But I'm not going to be so arrogant as to state that as an absolute fact. |

Maybe I need to consider Lexus, Acura, Infiniti and give up on Hyundai. I did test drive two V-6's and found them lacking especially at anywhere near MSRP. Better than the Azera in most areas, but strangely lacking in others. Ride did not wallow, but every road impervection was transmitted to the driver's seat and steering wheel. What will the Genesis' be like at one or two years and 12 or 24,000 miles? With Lexus, you know. |

Based on my experience with a 2007 Azera Limited, I take Hyundais with a bag of salt. I have driven two Genesis' and found them lacking, even in comparison to the Azera in some areas. It does ride and perform better and has some different amenities, but it's still and Hyuundai and at this point a very much unproven quantity. Hyundai still has quality problems, whereas Lexus does not or else fixes them. Hyundai will listen, but ultimately just says - "That's the way the car is." A great warranty doesn't mean anything if it cannot be fixed or everything goes wrong. The concept, and price, of the Genesis is great and it looks better, but in the long run will it really be worth the total cost to own and frustration? No. |

It is too soft for me and does not feel the way that I would like it to, that seems to be the problem that carolinabob is having as well. Now, just because I do not care for the ride, does that mean that HMA is on the hook to change the suspension to fit my tastes? The answer is no. If the time comes that the "problem" that a person is having with a car is an issue of personal preference, what is a manufacturer to do? I don't think that there is any company in the world that will reengineer a car to make a customer happy. If you like the ride/drive of the Genesis, then jump in!! The underpinnings of this car are considered world-class, and I would have to think that the components and geometry would remain the same over time. |

Replying to: joe97 (Aug 23, 2008 3:25 pm) BTW, the problem with the Azera ride is not that it is too soft, but that the shocks are inadequate. As mileage reaches about 4,000 miles, the car begins to wallow from side to side or front to back over any dip or rise in the road. Hyundai should fix this as it is not normal and gets worse as the shocks age. I really would like to see Hyundai de-throne Lexus, Acura and Infiniti, but they are not doing it yet and won't until customer service and quality both improve. A 100,000 mile warranty is meaningless if the manufacturer's response is "That's the way it is. Goodbye."

Replying to: carolinabob (Aug 25, 2008 7:10 am) By the way, the Camry had worst issues (i.e. tranny). Even if I didn't know anything about auto, it sounds a lot major than electronics, for example, which some of the readers picked up on the Azera. I really would like to see Hyundai de-throne Lexus, Acura and Infiniti Hyundai doesn't need to, really, to be successful. Hyundai has to take care of its own things first and foremost. And, just for kicks, the Genesis has already outsold the Acrua RL last month, the Lexus GS and the Infiniti M are certainly achievable. By the way, those cars were sold with huge discounts, while little were slapped on the hood of the Genesis |

Replying to: carolinabob (Aug 25, 2008 7:10 am) I have owned my Azera since June 2006. I now have 70,000KM on it. I have had the breaks replaced at 22,000KM (Free of charge) (They were noisy) I have had regular oil changes done. I've had NO PROBLEMS with the car since and to this day! It is the best car I've ever owned by far. I would highly recommend this car based on my experience with it. I have NO suspension issues with my Azera. I have been treated like royalty at my Hyundai dealership. I am 44 years old! Have driven G35 coupe, Camry, Accord, BMW 3 & 5 series, Acura TL (This I liked too) and many others... My Azera is the quietest car I've ever driven! AND it also very comfortable I'm writing this because I'm getting a little tired of Carolinabob's constant bashing of Hyundai and especially the Azera. Unlike him I've had NO problems whatsoever with my Azera and thought alot of folks reading here (like me) would appreciate hearing my "positive" experience/opinion too! (If not then I apologize in advance for my positive comments on this car) No disrespect intended at Carolinabob...in fact I'm truly very sorry he's having problems with his Azera. Sincere regards,
