I am not being defensive. all I am saying is it is unreasonable to compare the economics with a GS because a Genesis can be Had for as little as $ 349.00/ month with 2100 down.

You can never dream of having a GS/ 5 series/RL or any porshe which Hyundai compares itself with for that kind of money .So these are in different leagues.
I test drove the Hyundai few weeks back and within weeks the value of this car has stumbled to leasing at the above rate or buying it for $30750.00 including Destination.

That proves how most buyers feel it is worth irrespective of what an edmunds editor or Hyundai feels its competition is.

Oh yeah

hyundai puts in a multi million dollar ad campaign not to compare but to educate most people who are ignorant of the fact how slow a boxter can be compares to a full size sedan costing $30000.00. LOL

THATS THE MOST HILARIOUS INTERPRETATION I HAVE EVER SEEN

I totally agree with you.
The price reductions prove once again the real competitors for the genesis are Avalon/Accord/C300/MKZ and the Maxima.Hyundai just wants to differentiate it bycomparing with the Luxury segment and the reviewer just played ball .

Hyundai has a history of doing this first with the Kia Amanti ( benchmarking it against a Benz and then reducing the price by $7000.00 in two months time) then they repeated it again with the New Sonata ( history knows what buyers thought of the comparision ADs with Camry ). They repeat price reductions with the Veracruz , Entourage and Now with Genesis initial discounts not offered but starting to offer discounts and low lease offers.

The price reductions

What price reductions? Send me a news release that says Hyundai has reduced the price of the Genesis.

Now with Genesis initial discounts not offered but starting to offer discounts and low lease offers.

You do know that's usually the case with most cars, right? You do also know Hyundai wasn't the first to have introductory lease offers, right? And just so you know, the bulk of purchases in the luxury segement is via lease.

Some misc. points:

New Sonata ( history knows what buyers thought of the comparision ADs with Camry

Call the police because Hyundai has committed an offense by comparing to the mighty Camry, interesting it just so happen to be Sonata's main competitor. Oh wait, let me guess, you and satyarg will argue it's cheaper so they are not in the same league...

C300

You do know that's the C-Class right?

I totally agree with you.

Nothing new on that front.

So you went to one dealer and the dealer decided to knock down the price of the Genesis. Good for the consumers then. This is absolutely not the doing of Hyundai, just so you know. In my area, the Genesis is still being sold at or around MSRP by most dealers.

What's wrong with the Genesis being cheaper? A price set does not always define the competitors, and this is a very good example - somewhat similar can be drawn to the first LS. If you've actually examined the Genesis closely, from front to back, inside and out, if you've actually driven the Genesis with the GS/5er back-to-back-to-back, you would have given more kudos to Hyundai, for what they have done. I know I am. Is it a perfect car? Absolutely not, but then again, none of them are; there are pluses and minuses in all of them. For me, it really comes down to preferences, and seeing as how the 5er rides too firm for me, while the I rate the GS as being too soft, the Genesis felt as the most balanced of the three.

What's with the caps and the frown emoticon? What Jeff offered in his post is likely what Hyundai intended to do. Just because you don't agree with, doesn't mean it is not true and his post should be dismissed.

By the way, the car in question is $42K, not $30.

PS: you and adam, is it that hard to spell boxster?

the truth is this car is being offered at $30,750 with destination and leased for $349.00/ month for 24 months for $2100.00 down.which puts it right in the Avalon, C hrysler 300, Maxima, Taurus and accord league which are its true competition.

the price reductions and lease offer rates prove that.

this i no luxury segment killer

I can give you the dealers names and their print AD details

I was quoted 30,975.00 even before I negotiated for a 3.8 model with 27 miles on it.
by gregory Auto/ Hyland Park, IL.
Thats on a 2009 model before negotiations with Destination included.
And Now I see LEASE offer ads in the newspapers yesterday in the tribune and the pioneer press for 349/ month with 2100 down.
I can offer u more details if want to come and buy them in the midwest.

I wonder how much value it holds after two years

What truth? You have to read what I wrote before you go off-tangent with whatever you are writing. You were talking about the commercial, which I told you the car used in the commerical MSRP for 42K.

We get it, your dealer gave you 30K for a Genesis. Good for you, you don't have to re-iterate in EVERY single post, we got it the first time.

You just proved my point. When people were talking about the large cash discounts on the GS (which is normal for the current economy), you and other Lexus fanatics go all out defending there are no cash discounts offered whatsoever, yet you make such big deal for the little $$$ off on a Genesis by some dealer. You are in such denial here.
