Does anyone know why Saab discontinued the 9-3 1.8T engine in the linear? The rated gas mileage for the smaller engine is 32 highway, and only 29 for the larger engine, that is a 10% difference. I have a 2005 9-3 with a manual, and they tried to sell me the larger engine. Hah! with cruise control on at 65 mph I get 35-37 mpg on the highway.
Talk about bad timing! If they held on with that engine they could be bragging 30 mpg mileage in their vehicle adds.
Hope they bring it back, it has plenty of get up and go, as much as I need, anyway.

the linear never had a 1.8 liter engine, it has a 2.0 liter engine but the turbocharger has less output and that is why you will see a lower case t with linear models while a capital T with the arc and aero models which have the higherpowered turbo. In terms of fuel economy, according to old guides (2007 and previous before the gov had ratings changed for 2008) the arc and 4-cyl aeros also had over 30mpg highway. In case you are not aware, the ratings requirements for every model and every brand changed including testing at higher speeds, w/ air conditioning on, etc and that is why the current rating is not over 30mpg highway. plus the linear was a very low trim and did include half of the features you would expect from a saab like the linear and aero do. the sound system was poor and even had a different audio head unit w/o. that second screen. it has manual climate control not dual zone auto climate control, and much more. the discontinuation was a very wise choice in my opinion.
