08 Seq Plat Purchase - Am I Crazy? by xier

Sure the deals now look pretty good - especially considering the zero percent but is it not a bit crazy to buy in today's climate? Purchasing at 10 to 12 K under MSRP is good by all acounts but from my multi state inventory I am seeing that dealers have 20+ (one had 50 on the lot) of these babies on the lot - usually parked far away from the cars that are selling. With no 09 model in sight in a few months all of this inventory will be one year old and at some point to move them I'd bet they will have to write them down even more. I find myself wanting to buy a Plat model now but commen sense tells me that this may not be a good time to buy given the factors surrounding owning this V8.

Knowing what we know now I'm trying to come up with $'s that factor into the equation as much as possible the 1 year old status of the 08's + V8's are not selling anywhere - leading Toyota to stop production + overall economy. It would appear the be the perfect storm for buying a V8 but I can't help but think that the storm is only going to get better.

The only good excuse I can come up with for pulling the trigger now is that if I want the exact color combo it may be gone in a few months since if and when they start building these again Plat's might be a very very small percentage.

Flip side (from my sig other) is that Large Inventory + No Sales - means they will eventually have to give them away.

Ideally I'd like to get the great price and 0 percent - has anyone done this recently?

PROBLEM - I drove a Plat and like it

You make good points, many of which I recently considered, but still made decision to buy a Sequoia LTD 3 weeks ago. From my perspective, although inventories are quite high, with no new production for the next 4 months, I think the inventory picture is going to look quite different by the end of the year. I don't see Toyota getting too much more aggessive with discounts. The other thing which was a factor for me was trade-in situation...I was trading in another SUV (Suburban), with trade-in value declining rapidly by the week. I knew at some point in the next 6 months I would be buying a new Sequoia...I was 100% convinced that I'd lose more value on my Suburban in the next 6 months than what level of additional discount Toyota may throw at a new Sequoia. I'd also just suggest that if there is a particular color and option package you're seeking, you're going to find it increasingly difficult to find that specific vehicle the longer you wait.
3 Weeks into ownership...we love the vehicle and certainly have no regrets.

PSU - I like the vehicle but don't love it and perhaps that's what will in the end hold me off from actually doing a deal on one. If I had a boat that I had to tow etc... then perhaps I'd be willing to give my trade away and jump into the big v8 and 12 to 14 mPG's. I have driven 5 plat's and all but two of them drove differently - and not in a good way. I posted about one of the worst - with a major shimmy - reminds me of a car I put through a bush and over a curb in College... At this point I'll see what they do with the current special's run out in Sep -
