No financing through the dealer. I used my credit union and 4.49. Could have gotten 4.29 if I wanted a bigger monthly payment, 4 vs 5 year financing.

I love it when someone says, Great Price, then comes back and says the car isn't worth that much on the open market. It's worth that much to me, so that's what I paid and bought the EXACT car I wanted.

BVDJ84, do you drive a Camry?

i am about to do a similar deal but with the employee discount. Are you concerned about getting parts 3 or 4 years from now? That is the only thing holding me back. What is GM doing with Holden?

I have heard or read nothing about Holden going away. So, I don't believe replacement parts are going to be a problem.

I'm currently looking at the G8 GT myself and have been offered a pretty good deal, at least by normal standards. It seems there are two schools of thought, those who believe it's a bad idea to by a dying breed and those who feel this is the last chance for something great. I'm leaning more toward the latter. Whether or not this car holds significant value into the future, I'm looking at higher CAFE standards and the auto industry in general as leading to more "sensible" cars...meaning much more tame as far as performance is concerned.

I'm struggling over the nit-picky things, e.g., cruise control functionality, lack of Homelink, lack of fold down rear seats, lack of auto-dimming mirror, etc. Of course, I don't like spending such a large amount of money, regardless, on something I don't HAVE to have.

I've been offered a Black/Black leather GT with Premium Pack and Sport Pack for $29,505 out the door and I've been told (but not in writing) that I can apply my GM card to that for a final of $26,505.

Has anyone received anything close to this? Anyone care to comment on whether or not this is a good deal? Please give me more than a simple yes or no. I'm looking for comparisons...I'm getting this offer in Charleston, SC. Thanks!

My local dealer is offering similarly equipped cars for 26,995 plus TTL. One of the key factors is that the MSRPs have jumped more than $2k so that may affect the deal you're offered. As to the GM Card cash, you should have received a private offer that allows you to spend up to a specified amont. Mine allowed me $5k on all Pontiacs and Saturns. If you didn't get this offer, go to your GM card account under "manage my earnings" and you should be able to get the code there.

Vinny as usual you are the man and have the best GM card action! I've got the roundup to $3k offered for many GM-vehicles but will seek that $5K code you mentioned, thanks!

quietpro, what are you referring to about the cruise control? the cruise control on my 6-spd GTO is awesome. After 4 years of ownership, I remain hugely impressed with my 05 holden/pontiac - but annoyed that the nearest pedders-authorized-suspension-shop is hundreds of mile from here, now that my radius-rod/bushings/something-near-there is surely trashed.
in nearby G8 news, a pal of mine just traded is 04 GTO for a white 6-spd G8-GXP, the day after GM announced the demise of Pontiac...

The GM Card $5k plan only lets you apply "Up to $5,000" which is different than the top off in that you must actually have $5K in you account to use it. I had over $12k piled up, so I got to use $5k. I'm hoping that I get another offer in the mail so that I can go back and buy another car. I bought my daughter a loaded Astra yesterday for less than $10k out the door. If I get to use the offer again, that will probably go to a G8 or Corvette.

QP,

Do NOT worry about homelink or auto dimmng mirror. I had the same problem with my 09 Jetta TDI, just not offered with the vehicle and VW parts quite silly expensive ( auto dimming, no homelink, parts alone $330! ).

Google "Mito" for the OEM supplier of the day / night and homelink mirrors. I didn't need homelink, got the auto dimming mirror for about $90. I recall the homelink auto dimming was about $260 or thereabouts. They even have OnStar mirrors with auto dimming and homelink for vehicles factory equipped with OnStar to start with ( which I don't believe the G8 has ).

A competent stereo installer should be able to handle the auto dimming homelink mirror as well. The only "hard" part is running power to it. If you are doing this, I suggest considering a bluetooth hands free install at the same time. If you go with something like Blue Connect, which builds in to your headliner about the driver ( I like this and have it in both of my cars, the voice recognition and command is worthwhile IMHO ), the installer can run power once and service both devices.

Good luck with your G8. If I get one, I am holding out later for a GXP 6 speed manual, if if if.

Nothing "wrong" with the cruise, just the way the controls are configured. I prefer them on the steering wheel and I REALLY love that mine has a cancel that allows me to cancel cruise without tapping the brake or turning off the cruise altogether. I don't believe that's an option on the G8. It's nit-picky, as I stated, but one of those nice little features that endeared me to GM back in '02 when I bought my first one. If I'm wrong, please let me know. I'm almost certain that I'll be buying one and all the little tips to get me better acquainted to the Aussie way will be greatly appreciated.

thanks for the gmcard info Vinny, & Go Red Sox!

quietpro, I hear you about the steering wheel cruise control - that can be nice too.
fwiw, on my GTO, when cruise is enabled, one tap on end of stalk will make it inactive/remembering-set-speed. two taps turns it off.
