As we hammer the 2009 Acura TL down some of Malibu's most challenging canyon roads, the big sedan is handling itself well. It carries enough speed through the corners to make us a little nervous, but the lack of tire squeal makes it clear that we're far from pushing its limits. First Drive: 2009 Acura TL SH-AWD

This new TL seems to have the power, handling and comfort improvements well in hand, but what about that exterior design? What happened to the Euro-look TL just departed? Replaced by a design which seems to try way too hard to be "different". Its different all right, but hardly beautiful, or even appropriate for an entry-lux entry. Is it the designers or Acura management who approved this design evolution? Who knows, but good luck moving this metal in any quantity. Since separating themselves from Honda design studios, the TSX and now the TL have fallen off the cliff, design-wise. Maybe Honda should just copy others as the Koreans are wont to do.

| I was waiting for the new acura TL to get a new car but now the I seen it I better stayed with my old car the model looks so ugly no disign at all looks like the twin of a new accord except little bit bigger, and more futures. | |

| It's what expected for the 09 TL still very classy and keeps to the old design, I have a o7 with the Nav and it looks pretty simular for the interior. Can't blame Acura for using some of the Accords design that's what they did for the old TL and least it doesn't look like the new TSX.Very good looking car like the old one.So kudos to Acura. I'll probably go to check it out when it gets to my dealership. | |
| I didn't know that Acura lured Chris Bungle (sic) away from BMW. The new TL looks horrible while BMW finally designs a much cleaner 7 for '09. | |

I want to say I love my '07 TL-S. I've gotten 19,000 miles out of it and only changed the oil. Much better than my luck with previous to MB's which lived at the dealership. I want more, call me greedy. I want 4 wheel drive so I can get my tires to stick (on more than drive pavement). I recently stopped in the dealership and saw the new '09 TL's. On my brief inspection I was not as impressed. It felt more cramped, the switch gear lower grade (for example the interior door handle is now plastic rather than metal), and I hate the nav screen being in a football instant replay hood on the dash. It looks like an Accord with a giant chrome wedge on the hood. We didn't take it for a spin so I can't comment on how it drives, but I'm thinking I might not run in when they do have a 4 wheel drive car in stock to look at. |

Current 07' TLS owner. Love the current design. I get many compliments on the car. I added the ASPEC package. Sharp car and pretty quick too. What were they thinking for the 2009 design? Pontiac designers must have moved over to Acura design studio! Moving on to Lexus GS 350 AWD or Audi. Later Acura. Your new design is awful! |
