Definitely the middle post issue....which takes about two secs to get used to...really, I have never even thought twice about it b/c you can see basically the entire vehicle behind you. The ride issue is real, but not so bad that you shouldn't opt for the sport pkg or run flats if you enjoy a "sporty" ride and feel; you just need to know what you want when you're checking the option boxes. If you want mpgs and fun peppy ride, get the smaller wheels and no sport susp; if you want a corner carving little monster that is just a hoot to DRIVE...go with the sport pkg and upgraded wheels.

How does a mini drive on slicky roads? Snow conditions? Uphill in snow?

The 1-series is not without personality. It is just a different one that's a bit more traditional. I love mine. The Mini is just more "quirky" or distinct. I also think the 1-series is perhaps the best deal for the money. It has essentially the same guts as a 3-series in a slightly smaller and less expensive package. However, I actually find the seats softer and more comfortable. On the personality side, I think all cars have their own feel. Mini's are the most cheerful pure fun car I've drived. I have a Z4M, too. That's a testosterone-adrenaline car. My original point is still that you have to match a car to what you want it to do. My favorite dumb comment I see most everywhere on 2-seat roadsters is "small trunk". Well, of course! If you need lots of trunk and storage you get an SUV, full size or even a pick-up. It's a dumb comment unless someone is saying even for a 2-seater the trunk is small. Real happiness in autos to me is when you match the right car to the proper expectations. Many times when I see a negative review of a car it is because the reviewer has the wrong expectations of the vehicle.

I have driven in Colorado so I have done both. They are very good in snow but it is important to match your tires to the climate. If you have a lot of snow, then get a snow tire. However, front wheel drive is very good in snow in general. Uphill depends on what model you have. Colorado has a lot of altitude. The S-models will be best hands down, but don't count out the basic models. Even in the mountains I find the Mini does fine. You may need to drop two gears on long steep grades at altitude, but you will be fine. It's not a racecar but you will have no problem keeping up with traffic. Be a little more careful when passing the RV towing the car, lol.
