Nothing "wrong" with the cruise, just the way the controls are configured. I prefer them on the steering wheel and I REALLY love that mine has a cancel that allows me to cancel cruise without tapping the brake or turning off the cruise altogether. I don't believe that's an option on the G8. It's nit-picky, as I stated, but one of those nice little features that endeared me to GM back in '02 when I bought my first one. If I'm wrong, please let me know. I'm almost certain that I'll be buying one and all the little tips to get me better acquainted to the Aussie way will be greatly appreciated.

thanks for the gmcard info Vinny, & Go Red Sox!

quietpro, I hear you about the steering wheel cruise control - that can be nice too.
fwiw, on my GTO, when cruise is enabled, one tap on end of stalk will make it inactive/remembering-set-speed. two taps turns it off.

elias,
Thanks for the tip. I'll try it out and see if the same command works on the G8. That will be good to know.

Bingo! That works on the G8 as well. Thanks again for the tip. I'll go through the owners manual (when I finally get it) and see what else is tucked away inside the G8.

Cruise, Memory vs off by camydog

I read the cruise control section in the owner's manual and it doesn't get into enough detail regarding the coast feature/memory. It does work the way elias said. Nice feature.

Love the car. I'm just over 500 miles, still in break-in period. The torque curve from the 6 ltr. is great. The car is also fun to put through the twisties here in W.V.

Anyone notice that the OEM Good Year's are made in China?

Sweet deal! I used my $5k GM Card cash to buy a Saturn Astra for my daughter, but if they send me another $5k offer, that's going for a G8...

G8 GRRRRR8 / cruise / diagnostic dashboard modes? by elias

Cool, and you are most welcome, quiet professional! I'm glad that the cruise control works as suavely on the G8 as it does on GTO...

And nice buy, S "agent 99" Hayes !
You & our favorite NY-Barbarino with the >$3500 GM cards are both heroic.
Personally I'm hoping to find a way to use my $2K GM card rebate to buy the used geo-metro from the free-credit-report-dot-com guy, along with the wear-a-pirate-hat-roundup if I'm really lucky.

ps - For some enginerdly and Holden-o-rific ways to sidetrack yourself from watching the road, maybe check out the diagnostic mode of the dashboard
by starting the car while holding down the "mode" & "set" buttons.
Then you can cycle through the diag info by hitting "set" repeatedly.
One of the cool diag modes on GTO shows the true speed: note how the
big-digits digital-readout reads ~2% faster than actual speed, as does the analog speedo pointer.

My Goodyears are made in Oklahoma (huh?), per the code letters.

After 4 months and 5500 miles still lovin' my G8, although probably a little less if gas prices go way up again.

Possibly a different version of the owner's manual? I read mine last night, coincidentally, and it mentions the "tap" off feature that will allow resume.

Another coincidence...I was driving my "Sport Red" G8 GT through the WV twisties yesterday. I used my Verizon phone VNav to show me the way to a casino in Charleston and, as has happened before, it led me to the middle of nowhere. No worries (other than for the REALLY strange folks I passed on the street) because I used the OnStar nav to rescue me. It was all good because I wanted to take the road less traveled and this car LOVES it.

Happy ending...I came out a winner at the casino. It was my birthday, after all.
