GM wants cars that sell at a big profit, that's why they kept Buick vs Pontiac. How do the 2 owners of GM feel? The UAW is no fan of the G8 because it's made in Australia not here, and the Government is no fan for that reason plus the MPG is not that great.

Replying to: mgdim (Jun 26, 2009 12:50 pm) I'm currently looking at the G8 GT myself and have been offered a pretty good deal, at least by normal standards. It seems there are two schools of thought, those who believe it's a bad idea to by a dying breed and those who feel this is the last chance for something great. I'm leaning more toward the latter. Whether or not this car holds significant value into the future, I'm looking at higher CAFE standards and the auto industry in general as leading to more "sensible" cars...meaning much more tame as far as performance is concerned. I'm struggling over the nit-picky things, e.g., cruise control functionality, lack of Homelink, lack of fold down rear seats, lack of auto-dimming mirror, etc. Of course, I don't like spending such a large amount of money, regardless, on something I don't HAVE to have. I've been offered a Black/Black leather GT with Premium Pack and Sport Pack for $29,505 out the door and I've been told (but not in writing) that I can apply my GM card to that for a final of $26,505. Has anyone received anything close to this? Anyone care to comment on whether or not this is a good deal? Please give me more than a simple yes or no. I'm looking for comparisons...I'm getting this offer in Charleston, SC. Thanks!

Vinny as usual you are the man and have the best GM card action! I've got the roundup to $3k offered for many GM-vehicles but will seek that $5K code you mentioned, thanks! quietpro, what are you referring to about the cruise control? the cruise control on my 6-spd GTO is awesome. After 4 years of ownership, I remain hugely impressed with my 05 holden/pontiac - but annoyed that the nearest pedders-authorized-suspension-shop is hundreds of mile from here, now that my radius-rod/bushings/something-near-there is surely trashed. in nearby G8 news, a pal of mine just traded is 04 GTO for a white 6-spd G8-GXP, the day after GM announced the demise of Pontiac... "I like this ship, it's exciting!"
