Ah but is it art? I finally got around to getting a digital SLR camera a few days ago and I've been learning my way around all the features and settings, so I thought, why not start a discussion about photography so we can have a place to share tips and cool photos we have taken.

Keep 'em clean and be sure to let us know a little about how you took the photo as well. (Camera settings, etc)

Night shot by pf_flyer HOST

So I was playing with my new Nikon D60 and shooting in nighttime mode. I was having trouble getting the camera to focus on the chestnut tree in the back yard, so I took a flashlight and shined it on the tree so the camera could lock on, then turned off the flashlight and fired off the flash. The night mode keeps the shutter open after the flash to allow the background to be illuminated in the shot as well. Had to reduce the size somewhat to upload it here. The stars in the sky are even more vivid in the full sized shot.

We had a summer concert with the Broadway cast of Beatlemania here in town. I got to poking around backstage during the concert looking for unique views.

We spent a few days in the Williamsburg, VA area and if you get a chance you need to see the Kinetics show at Busch Gardens. Simply amazing stuff!
