I just traded my 09 Corolla for a 09 Civic. I really liked the 09 Corolla...it was well built and felt tight,it rode nice, was quiet, got great fuel mileage and offered more features for the same money than the Civic....but it's biggest flaw is the steering. I just couldn't live with the steering of the 09 Corolla. The car always felt like it was being blown around on the road...the car wouldn't go straight in it's lane without constant steering corrections and the faster you went the worst it felt. The whole time I was driving the Corolla,I was thinking about the steering with this car. I often thought I would get pulled over late at night with this car because the cop would think I was drinking...that might be a slight exaggeration, but really the steering felt like that. After driving the car 7K miles I just couldn't take it any longer. The 09 Corolla has got to be the worst steering car made today. A F-250 work truck steers better and is easier to keep in it's lane on the highway than my 09 Corolla was.

Love the steering with the 09 Civic...the car just drives straight and you don't think about steering the car. The handling is so much crisper with the Civic and the Civic is simply more fun to drive. The 09 Civic is a bit noiser in the cabin at road speeds than my 09 Corolla, but I think both cars ride comparability. I do find the Civic to be more comfortable for me than was the Corolla. The seat in the Civic feels more supportive around my thighs and is more comfortable for me..... there is more leg room side to side down in the feet area with the drivers side than with the Corolla. So far, I'm happy with the 09 Civic. All cars have pro's and con's. My 09 Corolla was a well built car and I really liked it,except for the steering flaw. I would recommend for anyone who is thinking about a 09 Corolla to take one out for a long test ride on the highway at highways speeds....I wish I had...my test drive was around a collage town and you couldn't really feel the steering flaw at those slow speeds.

I notice you refer to the new electronic steering on the Corolla as a "flaw". Actually this is boosted about as being an improvement. I had concerns about the steering before I bought my 2009 Corolla but it turned out to be an unfounded nonfactor. I certainly don't see it as a "flaw". I really like the steering and love being able to turn the car with just a finger touch. This is new technology and most automakers are going the way of the electronic steering. I test drove the 2009 Civic before I decided on the Corolla but the egg shape of the Civic just turned me off. I also didn't like the cabin noise versus the Corolla.

Did it get worst later in one of your previous posts ( #2836 0n 12-17) you said ( I got around 2500 miles on my Corolla now and it's funny, I don't feel the steering like I once did.) . You may have convinced yourself after a while to live with it the main thing is that you are happy and feel safe regardless . For me it did take me a short time to get used to also it now i dont notice it. Even my wife when she first drove it said it felt funny but now neither notice it.

Good luck both are good choices

I did think at one point that I was getting used to the steering and I wanted the car to feel right and who doesn't after they spend the money for a car, but after driving the Corolla for 7K miles, I just couldn't keep the car going straight in it's lane without constant steering corrections and that just played on me the whole time I was driving the car. I guess I'm one of only a few who doesn't like how the 09 Corolla steers. I really like everything else about the Corolla though.

It's funny, the grass isn't greener on the other side though....I got this 09 Civic and the steering is much better than the 09 Corolla's, but the Civic has much more cabin noise than the Corolla and I don't like that. Dispite what the mags say in their road tests when they compare the Civic and the Corolla... too me the Corolla rides very nice, and with it's quiet cabin, and tight overall feel, theres a more refined feel to it than the more sporty and supposely superior Civic..not that the Civic doesn't feel good too, it's just that except for the steering, the Corolla is just as nice if not nicer dispite what the so called professional road tester say in there write ups.......after all these cars are only commuter cars anyways. If only Toyota would address the steering issue.

Enjoy your Honda, you can't go wrong with either a Toyota or a Honda. I'm sure you will get used to the cabin noise. The most important thing is that you like the way the car drives. Thank you for the honest assessment of both cars.

My wife has purchased a 2010 Corolla LE. Comparing her Corolla to my 2006 Civic LX: The Civic and Corolla offer similar features, however the 2010 Corolla has added a few nice additional standard features: Stability control, Traction control, Heated side mirrors, Remote truck release, External Temperature display, superior interior finish. It feels very solid on the road, and the Corolla LE costs less than the Civic LX. My Civic LX still has issues in warm weather with the ‘creaking door’ sound when turning the steering wheel, and parts coming apart and falling off in the interior.

How I was cheated at Price Leblanc, Baton Rouge by samforu

We were sold a Toyota Corolla LE from Price Leblanc for $19,477. This is how the deal took place.

We took a test ride in a basic model of the Toyota Corolla LE and it was priced at MSRP $20,038. We then went into their office and asked for Alloy wheels , mud guards and door sill protectors. The price came to about $21,100.
The Sales guy then brought his Sales Manager and he agreed to waive off the charges for the accessories, which was around $1100. They then said they found a car will all the accessories and color we wanted. The Final price was $19,477. We were never shown or informed of the MSRP of car. After we signed the deal we saw the sticker in the glove compartment and the car listed on their website at an MSRP $19,298 (this included accessories). When we questioned the dealer he accepts that they
made a lot of profit on our deal even though its a clear case where we were cheated and we ended up paying more than the MSRP.

I'm sorry but it doesn't sound like you were cheated if you were happy with the deal. You obviously paid much more than what you should have for the car but yet you were very happy paying $19,477 for a car that had everything you wanted and in the color of your choice or else you wouldn't have signed the deal. A good lesson to you or anyone else shopping for a new car is never deal from the MSRP down but deal from the invoice price up. You are well aware of Edmund's website and they could have told you right here what the dealer actually paid for that car in you area. Prices for new Corollas have been up and down for the past year and a half. When the new 2009's came out in 2008 they were selling fast and were hard to find on the dealer's lots so buyers were paying close to MSRP if they wanted one. Then the economy went bad and Toyota was forced to give rebates to move them. Now with cash for clunkers they are one of the fastest moving cars again that buyers are trading their clunkers in for. So, like anything else price is based on supply and demand. If this was a 2010 model this Corolla invoiced out at $16540 with the alloys, mudgaurds and destination charge. The true market value of this car is $16889 which is what most buyers are paying. There also is a $1000.00 rebate for this years model right now. So realistically you should have been able to get this car for around $15889 in Baton Rouge plus taxes. If this was a 2009 model perhaps you could have gotten an even better deal considering the 2010's are now out and the dealers need to move the 2009's out of their inventories.

Hi there. I'm sorry things didn't go well at the dealership, but I hope you are enjoying your new car!!

Why don't you drop by our Dealer Ratings & Reviews feature where you can more effectively let others know how your experience went?

Meanwhile, if anyone wants to continue this conversation, let's go over to a more appropriate discussion and pick it up at this link: samforu, "Toyota Corolla Prices Paid and Buying Experiences" #675, 31 Jul 2009 2:02 pm.
