G37X Hardtop Convertible by sjaieve

Who wants to bet you can get this fully loaded for the price of a stripped down335i sedan.

Who wants to bet C/D is going to come up with some flimsy excuse (like bad manual transmission) to ensure their favored 335i comes first

Who wants to bet the 328i is going to be considered better than the G37 sedan with 328hp plus more (much much more)

I cant wait to see these auto magazine guys try to talk their way out of this one.

To those wise enough to see the light, keep us posted, we will be joining you soon:)

In the spirit of the epiphany of the clintons this year I feel the need to point out what is hard to see if you are on the receiving end of it...bias in journalism. "Objectivity" is hard to have in this day and age. The BMW will always win the comparisons (And the owners will celebrate)...even the ones where the car has mechanical failure (Twice ! !) or gets its ass whipped in EVERY measurable test (328 vs G). In short....save your breath and enjoy your car : ) Although I must say...the 3 series front end feels SPECTACULAR (Still not 50K worth though)

You pretty much summed it up, "Objectivity" is hard to have in this day and age. What gets to me is the assumption the writers make that the reader cant think and see that the conclusions being reached lack substance. 328 V G is a splendid example.

I liked your Clinton reference BTW:)

Anyway, lets see how it plays out, it should make for pretty intersting reading.

That's funny...I think the internet has done wonders for getting multiple opinions on things. I can deal with a biased opinion....as long as I can get an equal and opposite biased opinion the other way. Unlike the Camaro/Mustang wars....this class of car (I would hope) has a more logical/discerning buyer. On the G V 328, you would think that winning EVERY quantifiable test in a comparison of (Sport) sedans might mean something......nah ! ! !

My hat off to Edmunds though, there were one of the first, if not the only editorial to call the G ahead of the 335i. They had a well balanced argument, admitting that perfomance is arguably better in the 335i, but the G offers everything else, including perfomance for a great price.

In my case, the price for a fully loaded G35 is probably going to get you a 335i equipped like a Hyundai Elantra, not my piece of cake if you know what I mean.

Good point. I sat in (Didn't even bother to drive) a 335 that was a tad over 50K before getting the G. My girlfriend summed it up best when she said "Small and plain for 50K?". If I wanted pure driving dynamics with no accomodations or $ spent on the interior....I would get an EVO. I had an s2k at the same time..when I had my 04 TL...the s2k was driven often...once I got the G (Sport)...it was driven 1/3 as much. Up to 8/10ths the G was a better car all around. Above that (Occasional weekend romp), the S was better...but not by nearly as much as you might think. We got a racetrack in South Jersey now...wish the S's lease was longer lol.

Same question as original post. '08 335i vs '08 G35 Sport (sedans) by dfwhonda

I'm considering both of the above cars with manual transmissions. I've driven the 335i twice. An absolute joy. I've driven the G35 sport once (there is only one in the entire DFW area, and 3 in the state of TX), and can say that I thought the driving experience was not as smooth with the manual transmission as the 335i(although I thought it better than driving the 5-speed automatic). The G35 still had plenty of get up and go, although I could definitely tell the torque range differences between the two cars (favoring the 335i), and I thought I understood some of the C/D reviewers minor complaints (although I never stalled the car in taking off - may be I wasn't driving aggressively enough).

So, from a driving standpoint, I think the 335i wins out, at least in my short experience. But as others have mentioned, I thought the 335i was a car friendly mainly to the driver, whereas the G35 was much better configured as a sedan with four doors (and so taking into account that there may, at times, be others riding in the car than the driver).

Then there is the price difference of about $9k - $10k, and I've heard much about a BMW's potential reliability issues (and seen/heard no similar complaints with respect to Infinitis).

I guess I'm just trying to get a few more thoughts from anyone interested in sharing whether they think the extra upfront cost is worth the driving benefits of the 335i, especially considering that my family (spouse and 1-year old) may occassionally ride in my car. I probably won't ever visit a track with these cars, so query whether I need either one of them, but I would certainly enjoy spicing up the daily commute to and fro, and I think either car would do that trick quite easily.

You should've driven it. BMWs are about driving not interior or features.

So true, very very true. You should probably add BMW is about less reliability as well. See the 200,000 recall of 06 BMWs.

One thing people need to consider is if you ask a lot of drivers out there, no matter what they are driving, they will tell you their car is a pleasure to drive. My point here is, no matter which car you buy, its going to be a pleasure to drive.

Just my 2 cents
