I have a $50,000 emergency fund! My house is paid-off! I have no credit card debt! My 1990 Buick is still running fine! My wife and I are going to take that dream vacation with all the change I saved for the last 15 years! OW! WHAT'S WRONG? LEFT...SIDE...OF...BO...DY......FEELS...........NUMB! UNGHHHHH!!!!" Mrs. Tightwad: "Tony was such a good man! GIRLS, WE'RE GOIN' TO VEGAS!" Freddie Freeloader: "Dang! The company's forcing me into retirement! I All I have is $2,500 in my checking account. Did I ever tell you about The Theory of Inferior Ice Cream"? It goes something like this: What is the purpose of ice cream? Pleasure. It's not good for you, it's not nutritious, none of that. Sooooo, buying inferior, bad-tasting ice cream to save money becomes, essentially, a meaningless act.

I can "cheat" once in a while. Because it is more of a rarity for me, I will only cheat if it is truly worth it. My wife and I have grown to adopt this philosophy in other parts of our existence, too. Life is too short not to enjoy yourself. Why bother with something if, in the end, your reaction is "eh"? Hey, how do you like your car? Eh. You happy with that house you financed for 30 years? Eh. How's the food at that restaurant you've visited 12 times? Eh. Are you happy with your long distance service? Eh.

just announced it also had major charges to write off for lower-than-expected residuals in the last quarter, which substantially ate into its bottom line. It expects that to continue through this year, with profits down 1/3 or more as a result. Maybe they WILL be the next one to leave the lease business, although they are going to have to offer some WHOPPER cash deals to keep those customers coming in... I wonder how Honda will respond to what is becoming something of a trend. After all, most of Honda's incentives are in the form of promo leases...they sometimes use factory to dealer cash, but NEVER factory to customer cash. The leases are most common. Are Honda residuals holding up, I wonder? |
